Hey, where have you been? How's things?

The new bass has 16.5mm spacing. I don't slap and have small hands so I've been gravitating towards more narrow spacing. I bought an old Ibanez 6er with that spacing to check out just to make sure and it feels so good to me. The nut will be 2"....nice narrow neck.

Let me know if you're around Friday night this week...there's a great gig that I'm playing at...

My Friday night gig was canceled so I should be around, just got help out at this FNX thing in Salem (but its early thing).

I think we're all set on the specs now. I asked Brian to fashion a ramp for me, but just to sticky tape it on. I keep hearing about them, and haven't put enough time on one to come to any conclusions. I'm really digging the full tone that I can get out of lower action on some of the custom basses that I've played, and thought I'd dig deeper. I still set up my basses on the medium high side, but on a nice bass, I can get alot of response out of the string without fighting with it to speak. I wouldn't dream of trying a ramp on my old P bass, but I think that it would work well on the Ristola.

The Willis ramp has been such a great way to achieve a light touch and certain techniques for me...but it only works with low action. It's been a great asset. The double sided tape will work just fine....it's just a little more difficult to adjust for yourself...but once you've got it you'll never have to touch it again.

....and you can't go wrong with Brian's standard pickup positioning. I especially love where he puts the bridge pickup....

Andy, who are you recommending for ramps? I used Pete Skjold before and he was excellent. I think I would like to do a front and middle ramp this go around ala Janek's bass.

Hey Will! Nice new bass man!

I'd recommend Jon at M Basses. What a great guy, and he'll do a wonderful job and for a reasonable price.

I've been planning on having Jon make me a ramp for in front of my neck pickup as well. I don't slap and love the tones that you can get from that area....the ramp there really makes sense to me.

Cool. I like the sounds up there as well. Gary Willis really uses that area alot for jazzier (as opposed to funkier) stuff.
