Hi Nicky, sounds like quite the pickup setup. I've never tried a set of Armstrongs, they sound very interesting. I know both you and Andy think highly of them.

I'm so excited about these pickups. It was the first time that I speced out pickups and Kent made it easy. He was super quick with emails and very accommodating of what I wanted. I can't wait to hear them!!!

Yeah, I'm also very much looking forward to these Kent Armstrong pickups. I can't wait to hear them in my own bass.
I have to admit though, I recently heard some custom Seymour Duncun pickups that were right up my alley....if the Armstrongs don't knock me out then I'm going to have to pony up the money for custom SD's. I honestly don't expect that I'll have to go that route though.
Duncun dual coils with alnico II magnets. It's the design that was originally made for AJ. I ran the bass flat (cherry body, maple top, maple neck, kingwood board) and I heard the sound that I've been looking for.....it was that good....unfortunately it was not my bass.....so I'm hoping mine will be similar. The sound was very big and even with plenty of clarity and snap...the bass had a nice low mid punch going on and the sweetest top end....very smooth. It really was the sound that's been in my head for quite some time now. I could happily go with those pickups and no preamp....trust me, I did think of it.
does fodera use a different duncan than that pickup? i know i like my bass waaaaaay more with these duncans than i ever did when it had aeros in it.
btw, on a side note, weve talked about antiqtuity 2's that arent wound quite as hot before. duncan unwound a neck pickup of mine from 8.88k to 8.12k and achieved exactly what i wanted. they charged me 15 bucks to get it done. totally worth it.

The pickups that Fodera uses for Duncuns are different. The one's they use have Alnico 5 magnets I believe. Those are more aggressive, have less lows and more high end. Those are great pickups as well. I had tried those in a different bass. I like both pickups a lot, but when you hear the alnico 5 pickups all I could think of was Fodera....I'd like a different sound, even though I love that sound. The alnico II pickups were perfect for me. Apparently the alnico II was the one that Anthony was using for a while in his bass. I think he uses an Aero pickup now.
....I agree, I like the Duncuns better than the Aero's myself....much more.

Ok, so this is off to the finisher tomorrow....as you can see it got cherry wood fingerboard dots, the bottom cutaway was brought back a little more, there's a top mounted output and the indent between the pickups is where the adjustable ramp is going to be.....There will also be one or two switches near the bride. It will definitely have a kill switch and may have a coil tap switch...it all depends on what Kent Armstrong has to say about tapping the pickups.....this bass visually is more than I could have hoped for. Again, I was going for an understated elegence and I think we've achieved that. I've had very high hopes for this project and I think it's on it's way to becoming a very special instrument. Thanks ahead of time to Brian for all of his work.

Yeah, Brian wanted to finalize some specs. I'm sure that since it's a new design, there is alot to consider. Seeing yours is making me anticipate mine even more. Yours is looking fantastic.
I am absolutely elated......I'm still a little concerned about the reach to the 26 frets with the cutaway being not all the way back, but Brian seems to think it won't be a problem so I'll pass judgement until I get it into my hands.
I'm really excited to see your bass take shape. This will be Brian's first singlecut, and his first set neck, and I think it'll be a really wonderful bass. Did you decide on using both pickups for the bass? Volume/volume/tone?
Haha. Yeah, I had cold feet about the pickup placement. The thing is, I don't want to stray too far from what I know will work. I know Brian's 'normal' spacing, and I know what it sounds like (albeit with different pickups) so I'm going to keep it the first way.
The controls will be VVT. I'm going with 19mm spacing and it will most likely be 34".
We still have alot to hammer out, but it should come together quickly now.

By the first way, do you mean that you're going with his standard pickup placement?
