Congrats, Andy!
Very nice looking bass. If I may offer a suggestion: Play the bass for a while before you make any pickup or electronics changes. The present setup may "grow on you" over time. -And I actually think the marker on the 26th fret looks really good.

Well, the good news is I won't have any extra income for a while so I won't have a choice but to play it as is....I think that's a good thing. I already love it more and more everytime I pick it up. With the filter preamp there's no "flat" setting, so that's part of the discovery with this bass. The bass certainly sounds like what I was going for, so I got that part right. It's just a matter of if I want a little more bite in the high end from different pickups....that road won't be crossed for some time though.

Derwin, I saw pics of your bass at Brian's place. That looks like a great bass. With everything you told me you were going for I'm sure it turned out just right.

Chris' work is more warm and earthy sounding for the most part....feels that way too. I have nothing but great things to say about Chris or his work. Brian's basses speak to me a little more personally. Playing the basses next to each other would give you very different experiences. Also, Chris will do just about anything. Brian sticks to his shape and tries to stay with certain combinations of wood and electronics. I think it's allowed him to hone in on a certain overall feel and sound. I happen to like what it is he does.

Beautiful instrument. I didn't realize he interned under Chris. That's a good thing, since Chris's woodwork is among the best I've personally experienced. You can still see a lot of similarities between the Ken Smith's and Fodera's also (like the neck through laminates and tone block, etc.) Nothing wrong with carrying a bit over from early experiences, and then making it your own.

Enjoy, and +1... get 'er out and play for a while before the tinkerin'!

Yeah man...I didn't really get antsy until the last bit of waiting. It'll be well worth it I can assure you. What an amazing instrument I have now.

Sweet bass Andy. Congrats man!! I wish I had known you were up at the Strange Brew a couple of weeks ago, I would have come by. Let me know if you're playing up in NH again anytime soon. I'll try to make it out.

I'm at Peddler's Daughter in Nashua on the 25th playing an Irish gig I just got hooked up with. I'll have my Ristola with me there if I know you're coming. I got the bass dialed in really well tonight on a blues/pop gig, so now I know that I can get a great sound with the six for pop stuff. The people I play with don't care if I have the six, as long as the sound is there and I still play appropriately.

Right on. I can walk to the Peddler's Daughter from where I work. They got killer fish and chips. They serve it in newspaper. I'll have to come down and check it out. What time are you getting there at? I'll have to find something to do in Nashua to kill sometime after work. Maybe I'll just head right over and grab a couple at the bar. No sense in driving back home to Hooksett, just to turn around and head back to Nashua. I'll mark my calendar. Right now I don't have a gig that night. What's the name of the Irish Band?

I'm playing for Ronan Quinn. He needed a bass player last week...last minute thing, and then asked me to play the gig from here on out. I think we start at 9pm, but I can get there earlier if I know you'll be there.

I heard about the fish and chips....looks like I'll have to try that next time.

Thanks for checking in man.....I've been so busy at school that I haven't had time to take pictures of the bass or do a review. Also, I don't have a camera any longer. I'm waiting on the review as I'll be replacing the preamp soon and I want to have some time with the bass with the new pre. The bass sounds great though. I'm very happy.

Also, I belive that Nicky's bass is on the way really soon.

Brian suggested the Nordstrand 3 band. Honestly, I'm not too concerned with which pre we put in. I just need the ability to boost the bass once in a while. I can't do that with the ACG. If the ACG were a standard pre with a filter stack it would be perfect....even if it just had the ability to boost the lows in addition to the filters it would be incredible. The fact that I can't simply boost the low end has been a problem.

How are you liking the 33" scale? I just ordered my own 33" Stambaugh (4-string though) and wonder if it actually makes that much of a difference in the reach to first position.

I love the 33" scale. On my bass the B string is as good as any bass I've had before...and better than many. I think it effects the tone as well. The bass just sounds bigger/rounder. I can't say enough good things about it really.
