You should really talk to Jens about all that. The only info I can provide in this connection is that I remember it's not 3 coils next to each other (as I originally thought) in the Triples, it's an SC on top of a DC - someone had noticed only two coils in each PU when he had it X-rayed at the airport security control... :p

But I can't tell you which of the two coils that is located under the SC. Better do all the discussing with Jens when it comes to configuration and placement - afterall, the man is an electromechanical engineer :)

I came across this baby whilst picking up a custom Mesa Guitar Rig with my bro...

I think it has the original black strings on it (they have some slight signs of wear @ the fret contact point - the frets & everything else look new) - There is one section on the back (near the battery boxes) that looks like the tulipwood has separated a bit from itself along a line of grain - could be natural shrinkage...

I considered picking this one up & having a pro refin (maybe white) - although it would be a shame to cover up the birds eye on the back of the neck...

Seems like a steal of a deal...

And congrats to myself for keeping it in!!!! I wanted to talk about it so bad but I had to keep quiet until Jens was ready to unveil it. But thanks guys. I must say I am completely and totally humbled by this opportunity that Jens has bestowed upon me. It is truly an honor. I am also head over heels for this bass! Jens allowed me to customize my own electronic configuration and its amazing(er) if there's such a word! If any of you Ritter owners are in the Atlanta area give me a shout so you can try it out. I just can't say enough about it. :hyper:
Oh and the serial# is 1115. Add it to the club!

Ok, so I hope I'm allowed to post here, as I'm not a Ritter owner (yet!), but I thought I'd let you know about the interesting time I had last night here in London, UK, in the company of a certain Mr Ritter and a handful of his creations....

Jens was in London to talk about all things Ritter and, since a company here has just become a distributor, he'd decided to deliver the stock in person!

There was a talk from Jens about how he started, how he makes instruments etc. and a Q & A, interspersed with performances from a scratch band from the music college whose premises we were in.

Some fascinating facts came to light, from a glimpse of Jens' 1st customizing attempt, to why Jens prefers bolt-on necks and his reasoning behind the 10 or so neck bolts...

I had a chat with Jens afterwards and found him to be an enthusiastic and inspiring person...a real individual!

Just to be sure - you're planning to trade for the bass before playing it? Just curious, not that I haven't done something like that many times before... :)

It's difficult to answer your question for a few reasons, the main being that different people have very different opinions on what is defined as "growl". Just look around here on TB. I think some of the videos that Martin Motnik has on Youtube demonstrates very growly tone from his Ritter with Triples, but who's to say that you agree.
And who knows what his settings in the recordings are, both Triples could be set to singles, etc.

But it IS a fact that a Ritter bass with the Master electronics and Triplebuckers has a VERY versatile range of sounds. Depending on materials, design, and other possible variations, what sound you will get is unique to your bass. My current 2 Ritters are wildly apart, tonewise, but that is probably also expected as they share no features except the shape of the body and headstock.

My 5-string Roya with Triples can pretty much dial in any sound I want, from gut-punching thunder to crispy highs and rumbling lows. The only thing I can't find is a tone I don't like :p

@frizzle: nothing yet, must be a big job to resize the OPA-drive :)

Right now I don't mind that much - I'm negotiating a new work contract, and if everything falls into place, I'll have some time in January or February. Then I can go pay Jens a visit and pick up the bass myself...! So he doesn't have to finish it earlier than that :p
