Road Worn Precision

I think mainly because of cheaper labour costs. Kind of obvious that would have to make a big difference. Some of the parts in the Mexican made are not as good as the American made (they say) - pickups would be a good example. What people are saying about Roadworns is that they appear to be a significant step up in quality from previous Mexican made gear. Ultimately if you play it and it sounds and feels right doesnt matter where it comes from. There's a bit of "American made" snobbery going on and I think Fender count on that to distinguish the series.

I thought as in the MIM classic series all the hardware and pups in the roadworns were MIA. If not, there is no way in heck I would pay that price. To tell the truth I wouldnt pay the price I see on any road worn I would go MIA in a heartbeat. To me the great thing about MIMs used to be finding that gem that felt and sounded as good as any MIA for less than half the cost of american. Now with road worns and the new jump in the classic series prices the gap has narrowed and you might as well by MIA.

I have owned Fender Custom Shop, American Vintage Series, MIA, and real vintage Fender precisions. The Road Worn Precision I own now is one of the best P basses I have ever had. Do I care if it is "road worn" or not? No! I make my living playing professionally. The bass sounds great, and plays wonderfully. Play one before you make any "ridiculous" comments.

Yes I have learned a lesson about choosing things that are work for me rather than look good or cost a lot. My other bass purchased prior to owning a Roadworn P bass is a Gretsch Thunderjet. Bought it on its astonishing good looks and glowing reviews. I thought that being costly as exclusive it would be the best - and I thought Fenders were too boring to look at and commonplace. But now I much prefer to play the MIM Roadworn, even though its bass that's 1/3 the price.

I read in some other thread ("GAS anonymous") some guy saying he'd gone past all that obsession about making equipment comparisons and upgrades and was just getting on with being a better bass player. Thats what I need to do too.

I was able to play a 50s sunburst RW P-bass at my local Guitar Center and it was one of the best p-basses I've ever played. Great feel and tone. Fender has got it right, they just need to offer maybe a couple more color options and models.

I didn't even know they had a Sunburst one! I just checked Fender's website, wow... I might have to order one in to try out. If it's as good as the Fiesta Red I played yesterday, I might be in trouble....

The price does SEEM a bit high, but remember its a difficult comparison with the American made precision. You need to compare it to the American Vintage '57 P-Bass. Nitro finished neck and body, with a late 50's style neck. They don't feel at all like the MIA Standards IMO. I don't think anyone is saying these are the end all of Precisions. They just happen to be pretty consistant in build, and feel really great.

Went to GC today and a RW P costs more then a MIA P.....! RW 1244 MIA P 999 upwards!

I hear ya. I was at a Fender dealer who marked down his road worns due to low sales. He was still higher on his RW than his MIA basses. I dont know about you but i would buy a MIA over a MIM road worn anyday. I would be saving money on a bass that would have better resale possibly down the line. Dont get me wrong i love Fender MIMs it is my fav line of Fenders but they are getting way to expensive for me anymore. I will but the squier vibe line if i went new again.

I have deleted any posts regarding any earlier negative comments. If you have something negative to say about the finish choice of other people, keep it to yourself or you will be warned/infracted. Saying someone has to "earn" the finish they like is akin to saying a kid has to be bitten by a vampire if they want to dress like one for Halloween.

To everyone else- thanks for the diligent responses, but remember that if you see a trollish post, just report it and ignore it. Quoting it/discussing it further just means extra cleanup, as the goal is to simply not have those negative posts around.

Thanks guys.
