Looks like a legit beat up finish and R Trullio is not one to play cheap basses anyway, remember he bought Jaco's bass of doom for over $250k. The bass on the picture has old EMG active pickups which actually sound awesome.

Beat me to it, was definitely selectively burned. Here's another pic, doesn't look like a Fender logo to me, I don't know maybe it is.

Its a Nash, and the bass itself was in a fire, hence the finish and the name. About 2/3 of the way through the article after asked what gear he uses.
