Agreed, but I have to imagine he does play with generally high action for a lot of his gigs. He plays with a quite heavy attack at times, which is fitting for his work in recent years, and doing so with low action would likely cause the strings to bottom out.

The action isn't high, he is just pulling the E string off the fretboard so it makes it look that way.

Robert's one of the reason's I play bass. Saw him open for Metallica with Suicidal Tendencies. Awesome show. Also glad to see a bassist that doesn't have the upper horn under his chin. Rock on!

I can confirm this from my own experience, my band may not have been metal, but I sure was, metal enough to make up for the fact that we were an instrumental jazz rock trio. Wish I still had the pics so I could show off my meaty calves.

Btw, they can be cut above the knee and stay metal so long as they are tattered and worn, you don't want to expose a lot of thigh though or else your venturing into punk/hardcore territory, like Rollins, but that's only provided you remain rather macho, if not you just look like a Wham! tribute band.
