Why do people insist on trying to tell others what to do with their own stuff?
I'm just sick of this attitude nowadays that everything is replaceable, and so we can treat stuff badly and that doesn't matter.
I don't know, maybe it's because I don't come from a particularly well off background, but I like to think that there is value in everything, whether that's basses, tools, furniture, people even. I think we should respect our (and others') possessions, and that was my original point, but instead I've had the TB police tell me how I'm wrong and that I'm some kind of controlling jerk or something.
You are entitled to your opinion, just like we are entitled to ours. If you tell me how to care for, or maintain, MY equipment, I would politely tell you that it's none of your business, as I'm sure Trujillo would. Peace.
So you are entitled to tell everyone your opinion about how they should live their lives, but nobody is entitled to tell you to mind your own business? The world doesn't work that way.

I'm not telling you how to live your life, all I said was that I feel it's important to look after our things. What exactly is difficult to understand about that? Why shouldn't we look after our possessions?
My original comment was that knocking basses around intentionally isn't cool. Someone then pointed out that they felt the bass falling was an accident, and I stated that I'm OK with that, but that it still seemed a little careless to me.
Why are you getting so worked up over this? You're just beating a dead horse now man, and for what? What is to be gained? People aren't always going to agree with you, that's life. I do happen to agree that a fine, high quality instrument is something to be taken care of, but if someone likes to get rough with their gear, that's totally fine as it has no effect on my life, like at all. Zero. Zilch. Nada. You ought not worry about things that don't affect you, you'll go batty.
And for (hopefully) the last time, IT WAS AN ACCIDENT, it's very, very clear.

Sorry to keep this mini-thread going, but I'd like to to add a slightly different perspective. Like myself, there are those of us with artistic training and backgrounds who, for many reasons, like to personalize our stuff…be it an instrument, a car, a wall in our home, a trinket, a garment, or whatnot. Sometimes we like to take something we've bought, something that's perhaps a bit "off the shelf" for our tastes, and make it more "our own" than ever before.
Sometimes, it can be a very bold attempt, and I'm sure there are plenty of examples of exactly that here on the board. Other times, it can be a bit more subtle and, yes, replaceable/reversible, like this lil' touch I threw on a nice, but still somewhat plain, instrument…

It doesn't mean I don't respect my instrument. I just wanted to make it a little bit more "Me/Mine".

If I learned anything from this thread, it's that I don't want certain guys here in my everyday life. I'll treat my stuff however I want. Don't need some random dude yelling through my window because my guitar or bass slips off the stand.
On topic, I like the bass, I like Trujillo, and it seems he's always the cause of forum controversy one way or another while he's minding his own business and living the life in one of the biggest bands in the world

Why do you want everyone to be like you?
They're just things. What people do to their own things is their own business. Someone can put their bass on a pedestal in a climate controlled glass case, keep it pristine in a case under their bed, mod it whichever way they like or throw it in a wood chipper and use it for mulch. I couldn't care less because it doesn't matter.
In fact, in this case it looks like an otherwise useless instrument was put back into service. Nothing wrong with that either.
Personally, I've found every single instrument I've ever owned over the last 45+ years was replaceable and I continue to replace them to this day.

I as talking about the bass being knocked off the stand. As 'Scourgeofgod' said, it was an accident. I admit that, on second viewing, it does look like an accident.
All I said was that I think it's important to look after things.
Come on Robert! Grow up, get a hair cut, put on a suit and get a job so you can make something of yourself. You'll never make any money or be respected with that look and your amateurish attire. Ha!
Anybody consider the possibility that it was staged?
Now they have a great music auction item with a story behind it. Maybe the proceeds go to music education or whatever. Which in turn would probably fetch close to if not exceed list price (depending on actual value and damage, if any, of course) because some people will buy things for the weirdest reasons even more so if it is for a worthy cause.
Even if it wasn't, this guy can afford to pay for "damages". He could pay for the bass, let them keep it and re-sell it for a discount. They win.
