Rock Band/Guitar Hero Bass Controller

well harmonix (the programmers of the games) realized people like crap so they're making it.
If the youth play these games instead of going into a garage,shame on them.

If these games inspire them to go into garages,salute to them!

I play these games in the hopes of owning the hell out of everyone in my family that bows down to it. Imagine this: two guitars, two basses, in MY HOUSE, that noone except for me uses (i invite people to it, or I allow friends to hack a bit). a DRUM SET that my drummer used to leave downstairs where anyone could go and jam on it without a hassle. My 32 yr old brother owns a drumset, and yet he would choose guitar hero over that

Thats because guitar hero makes you think you can play good sounding music, how do you think tokyo hotel started?

My friend bought this controller along with Rock Band 2 when it came out. It works really well. Before when I would try to play two finger style on the original controller it would be very clunky, but with that controller fingerstyle bass playing feels very natural. Plus you get a point bonus for playing "authentic" as the game likes to call it.

OK let me pitch in my ideas on why I love these games

  1. It's better to see kids play a game where they pretend playing music than where they pretend running around stealing cars and burning people alive with a flame thrower
  2. The kids get to listen to some good music
  3. They learn to differentiate instruments in a band and therefore improve their music listening skills
  4. Even if they are only pretending to play an instrument, they still learn to do it in rhythm
  5. Even if not an actual instrument, the drum set requires hitting pads with drum sticks and help develop skills that can be transferred to the real instrument (stories of kids starting drums on these games and then buying a real drum set abound)
  6. If it makes kids want to play a real instrument, then that's awesome (my neighbor across the street bought his kid a real guitar after he got hooked on Guitar Hero and I can hear the kid play his guitar once in a while)
  7. Harmonix has helped making unknown bands famous (true, mostly in the Boston area)
  8. I have spent tons of hours playing with my kids, wife and family members, and we've been having a lot of fun with this thing
  9. Whatever puts money in the pocket of recording artists is ok by me

I'll help the resurrection, sure. :)

I was just talking to a girl about this the other day. She had a story about how she was wearing a Black Label Society t-shirt one day and some kids complimented her on it saying "yeah, that band from guitar hero really rocks"

Because, as we all know, BLS didn't come into existence until guitar hero was created. That's the only reason they are around.

When are they gonna have 'porn funk' band or 'reggae' band or 'country' band?

'polka' band (imagine the accordion controller)

awesome way to get people into music and video games at a party.

the wii is another great example of an inclusive approach to gaming and screen-based entertainment.

Me? I'd rather buy my bass a few sets of strings rather then a plastic 2-action strum-barred Fender P.

I see more of the later I think...

I quit playing bass in college and picked it up again after playing a bit of guitar hero. I got the point where I actually had to slow it down and practicing riffs on a plastic guitar and decided I needed to put the game down and go do the real thing again...never did finish the last 3 GHII songs on expert.

Anyway in the long run, its excellent rhythmic training (to get good at it you really need to feel the rhythm like IRL and you just use the screen for button colors not timing) ...and the vocals for rock band could be used for vocal training.

It also introduces kids to stuff they would never hear otherwise... Now kids actually know who the Allman Bros are!

Also I still play rock band but only with friends cause I can't in right conscious take time away from actual bass to play it.

Theyre kids, it happens all the time. My 12 year old niece recently started liking the Foo Fighters. I got to tell her how Dave Grohl was the drummer for Nirvana, who she's heard of, and stuff like that. Kids will be ignorant until someone can show them the way.

Yes but it's not a bad thing. It's about that age that you usually see the light... or not.

My daughters are heavily into that Hanna Montana crap and I am slowly introducing them to good music.

Of course Nick, I wasnt trying to say it was a bad thing at all. armywalaby was commenting on the kids' ignorance of black label society, and how they called them that band from rockband. My comment was more along the lines of "how do you expect a kid to know all about Zack Wylde, theyre just kids" In due time.

I enjoyed informing my niece about the Dave Grohl/Nirvana association that she probably would have found out eventually, but now she gets to know it now and tell all her other Foo Fighter loving friends.
