A) Yes.
B) Great music is great music...The vocals become another truly abstract event,the same as the other instruments. No lyrics to consider.
C) Not yet.

D)You may know of the TV show:Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations....He's done a couple of episodes in your country,Brazil. I saw one again just a few days ago.There's a song that's played more then once that gets me, in a big way.
It's sort of modern jazz-pop,Bossa Nova I-don't-know-what tune, with what sounds like a whirling organ/accordion.

If you know the show and the song, please let me know...I've wanted to hear more of this band/singer,and the song, for years.

1) No, it is French
2) I like it, I live in Quebec and once in a time we had great rock musician, now they started to sing in English and make uber garbage that the industry love so much. But I listen to some of them from time to time, I also like a few artist from France and Japan.

Actually I prefer music in languages I don't really understand.

It seems like there's one decent lyricist for a thousand decent composers :-\

Yes, and never try to look up a translation for your favourite songs. Non, just plain no. It's seems to always spoil a good song and feeling "*** was I listening to?"

A) No. My native language is portuguese from Portugal.
B) Good music has no language.
C) Yes.

All contemporary bands from Portugal singuing in portuguese and very diferent from each other. Hope you enjoy. :)

A) No, I'm from Norway.
B) I don't think much about it, I am in both English-speaking and Norwegian-speaking original bands. I think it depends more upon the singer wether or not he or she delivers in English or in Norwegian.
C) Yes, as I said I work with this kind of music. :)
D) This one is harder. All my favorite artist from Norway sing in English, but I'm sure I can dig up some treasures.

Here's "Blomst" ("Flower") with "Den Største Isen" (The Biggest Ice Cream). Great Norwegian-speaking rock band.


Here's "Kvelertak" ("Stranglehold") with "Mjød" ("Mead"). Think these guys are doing pretty well internationally as well.


And of course the all-famous "Kaizer's Orchestra" with "Maestro". These guys have Norway's no. 1 band for quite some time now. They have done over 1000 shows in 10 years (one every 4-5 days.), and make some pretty great music. They sing in a dialect called "jærsk", and half the country can't understand a word they're saying most of the time, so it's safe to say the music is viable for people of other languages.

B) The MUSIC comes 1st – is it good or not?, language 2nd and I like to know what the artist is singing about even if I can't understand it, so I get friends to translate when possible.
C) Often

FRENCH: Django Reinhardt (with Josette Daydé singing as in this one, I think)

MONGOLIAN: Zorigoo Battsooj, who plays horse fiddle, Western Mongolian mandoline and has an amazing repertoire of throat singing variations.

JAPANESE: Unkie, which I found out about here on TB and thus also [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

GERMAN: Erich Schmeckenbecher

YIDDISCH: Zupfgeigenhansel (I was in a Yiddisch band that played this song, none of the band members were Yiddisch.)

I used to buy a lot of stuff 10 years or more ago. Not so much now.

Loudness (Japanese) While they had a few English-sung albums, their Japanese stuff was much better, IMO.

Maná (Spanish, from Mexico) Great music, pretty popular band too.

Ofra Haza (Hebrew, Israeli) I just found out via Wikipedia she died in 2000.

I think what matter is a great bass/guitar playing.

Yes, i bought a nirvana album, 20th year anniversary hehe

As crazy as this might seam i don't like many brazilian bands, music sung in english was one of my tools to learn it, just like movie and sitcoms, Well like i said i like a little of Legião Urbana, Cássia Eller and Also Raimundos, Mamonas Assasinas lol

A) No. French is my native language, the Quebec variety.
B) I have very limited experience in recordings in other languages. Other than French, of course.
C) Yes, but not since the mid 1970s.
D) Harmonium, Beau Dommage, and the Ville Emard Blues Band.

A. Yes.
B. Completely open to them.
C. I've enjoyed several, including Los Lobos' tracks in Spanish, Cafe Tecuba, Sepultura's tracks in Portuguese, and an album my brother recorded by Botswanan artist Banjo Mosele, which is largely in Setswana. My brother has recorded several other artists in African languages, and I've liked lots of them. In eighth grade, one of my friend's sisters brought a Telephone album home from France, and I got pretty into it. I also have a Chinese heavy metal album, but haven't explored it much. I'm also a huge Fela Kuti fan, but like Los Lobos, most of his tracks are mostly or entirely in English.
D. Los Lobos is one of my all time favorites, and IMO one of the best American rock bands in history. Their Spanish language tracks only enhance their towering greatness. The Banjo Mosele album, Badisa, is a favorite too.
