Rock players show me your rig!

I’ve always found rig rundowns to be such an eye opening way of learning about gear and how to better my own live setup. However, Ifind there isn’t as much to learn any more from players outside my genre (rock, punk, indie, alternative, emo, etc) anymore.

So I’d love to see/hear about the basses, pedals, amps, cabs, and/or cables you use on stage.

What bass is going in the coffin with you? What gear has helped your live rig the most? What pieces of gear could you not live without?

Here is my current of basses and amp rigs.

At my crusty age it's all about portability for ease of playing as my finger joints deteriorate as well as ease on my back when gigging. So I've been playing 23" scale uke sized basses exclusively for almost ten years now and it's been an interesting journey seeing uke basses evolve from rubber strings & piezos in the beginning to steel core strings, magnetic pickups and solid bodies in just the last few years. And in the case of the Kalas and Flight basses (5,6 & 7 from the left) they are incredible values for the money. And they are all tons of fun!

For the amps, it's all about portability again. The Mesa/Quilter rig was strictly for home and I got the GR Bass 2x12 combos for rehearsals and gigs since they are so light. But the GR Bass combos became part of the permanent home right when I got involved with pedals last year (more on that later). I recently bought a MarkBass CMD 102P 2x10 combo which I had a long time ago but foolishly sold it. The newer version is a few pounds lighter and has great grab-n-go portability. I mostly use it as a stage monitor with XLR out to the house. It has some nooks and crannies in the back which are handy for stowing cables and things for transport. The Markbass combo and uke basses make for a very portable gigging setup.

I just got into the dubious realm of effects pedals late last year and so far have a couple of compressors and a stereo chorus. At home I go thru one compressor into the Mesa/Quilter rig and go out the effects loop into the other compressor and chorus and split the stereo chorus signal to the two GR Bass combos. Altogether it sounds wonderful, but I just have to pay attention to the volume in my condo complex. I may get a preamp pedal and tuner pedal, but that will probably be it.

I hope to always have in my rig a rack-mounted tube preamp (db680), a great-sounding compressor or two (dbx676), a couple of mid-forward cabs (Baer ML112), a crossover pedal (John K) with a good clanky dirt pedal (Rusty Box) on the high side, and a narrow-spaced, well-balanced 6-string (Fbass BN6D 16mm). :woot:

This feels like my ride or die set up. I will not take it to my grave because I hope somebody else will enjoy playing it after I’m gone. But until then, I play and enjoy the hell out of this gear.

Stock Fender P (1964) with Labella FS flats

Into:

Monster cables, Korg tuner, OE DCX Bass, Boss OC5, OE Bassrig Supervintage (to FOH):

Into an:

Ampeg V4B (1971)
Ampeg Heritage 810 (2011)

For big shows I might get my 72 SVT and an extra 810, but this set up works for bars, halls and even open air festivals. Simple and versatile. I always have an extra Fender P as back up in the guitar rack.

I mix and match my stuff depending on my mood or the room. I also have a Fender American Pro II P bass and a Fender Flea Active Jazz bass I use once in a while.

Pedalboard : tuner, single tube Night Owl pedal and the YYZ green pedal will be soon replaced by a Master Effect Super 300. Gives me the sounds I need to cover my set lists, from clean, reggae, Deep Purple and Ronny James Dio's songs. The black single tube pedal is by far my favorite and if I was to keep only one, that would be that one.

Basses:
Warwick $$ (active, 24 fret)
Jackson Spectra Pro (active, 24 fret)
Fender Precision (short scale)
Ibanez Acoustic w/internal mic (21 fret)

Amps:
Mark Bass Little Mark III
Mark Bass F1 Limited
Behringer 3000A Combo

Cabs:
Mark Bass 102HF8
Mark Bass 102HF4

Pedals:
Tech-21 SansAmp used as a DI with in-ears AND as a pre-amp in other situations
Behringer Octaver
Nothing else, I like my sound clean. Maybe a chorus some day, but unlikely.

I'm currently looking to trade the 102HF8 and get a 4ohm 4x10 and an amp with 2ohm capability, since the 4ohm 102HF is vastly more powerful than the 8 ohm version and would be terrific in a stack. Looking at a few amps at the moment but I may even find myself into an Ampeg SVT-4 because life is short and awesome gear would enhance it. ;)
