Roger Waters has to be stupid

If you've seen either live you'd know the answer.

Roger is a very passionate guy. Super active onstage. Runs around the whole show. Gives it is all.

Gilmore practically falls asleep onstage. Stands in place. Barely moves.

Imo. One guy gives a poopie, the other is in it for the money.

Why on Earth would Gilmour want to quit working with Waters, who is one of the most brilliant and important composer/lyricists in post-WWII British music?

Gilmour is undeniably a superb musician and a very special talent, but the two Floyd albums he helmed were weak, even after hiring legions of outside writers in an attempt to produce Waters-like material.

Momentary Lapse and Division Bell certainly aren't The Wall but were a step big step ahead of Final Cut which seemed to be the direction Waters wanted to take the band musically. Really strong albums in my opinion. I think Water's had exhausted where he could take the band and Gilmour moved them forward with some great material.

Waters recent tours dwarfed the recent Gilmore ones though.....

Admittedly Roger Waters somehow managed to lay down some pretty interesting both groovy and melodic bass lines on the first couple of releases by Pink Floyd, if that was even him, later though most of supposedly Roger's bass lines were actually recorded by Gilmour.

I know for a fact that when Pink Floyd started out he didn't even know how to tune his own bass.

And this video should be a proof of that whatever talent Roger possibly did use to posses on bass since has mysteriously disappeared:

Conditions under which I have played infinity better:

•Sick with dibilitating flu so bad I needed a stool, laid in a booth or vomited during breaks and still sang!
•Drunk as a pig (and I don't usually drink)
•My first day i got my first bass at 16
•The first day I touched any functional guitar, also 16.
•Tripping on psychedelic substances (hey it was the 60s)
I have never played that badly.........EVER!

Yeah, Roger sure do think a lot of himself and want all of the world to see him and acknowledge him.

I guess Gilmour doesn't need to make a big act out of his genuine talent though.

It doesn't come as any surprise to me.

I guess he was jealous of their talent.

He is and has always been a talent less hypocritical jerk who should have stuck to what he is good at, being a businessman.

He could probably had turned out a decent shoe salesman.

i cannot even see the first post - but i will surmise the politics plays a role here

as to everyone else - kind of embarrassing. two differently talented individuals, both played key roles in creating art enjoyed by billions. they grew apart, as people do, and resentful, as people do. who cares.

i doubt many people have leg to stand in in terms of criticizing pink floyd work. when your music touches as many lives as theirs, go ahead. at least just say - 'i dont like this' which is of course totally valid. but trying to run them down, c'mon everyone.

When it comes to Pink Floyd, or any other band I'm not a member of, I just listen to the music and sometimes go to the shows. I don't get involved in band drama unless it's something I absolutely have to deal with.

Most times I deal with it by walking away.

Eh. I like Dave. Saw Momentary Lapse of Reason. Saw The Wall. Wall was better. I like some of Dave's solo (non 'Floyd') stuff. Dave is a better instrumentalist. Roger is a better everything else. IMO.

Roger seemed damn good live at Pompeii video i saw and the clips of him playing bass for Dark Side sessions were solid IMO.

In my opinion Roger is a brilliant songwriter and a mediocre musician while Dave is a brilliant musician and a mediocre songwriter. They balanced each other out and produced amazing music until they fell out of balance. Happens all the time. Dave is an easy going bloke (and who I would pick for lunch) while Roger is much more demanding. They both have good and bad points as do all people.

The Wall makes my top five deserted island albums and I could care less who played bass on it. The album is brilliant as is the playing (guitar solo on Comfortably Numb is just amazing).

David Gilmour is a huge talent. His guitar work was instrumental in giving Pink Floyd their success, and he is a great singer, and he is a better bass player then Roger Waters,

Roger Waters is not a "mediocre musician." He may be a mediocre singer. (I'm not saying he is, he MAY be) He may be a mediocre bass player. (I'm not saying he is...) but a brilliant songwriter IS a brilliant musician, because writing songs is a huge part of the musical process. Not just writing good lyrics. He's a brilliant arranger, composer and lyricist, and he seems to understand how all the parts fit together. Plus, he played bass live from the sixties on, and may have had a cringe-worthy performance that got caught on tape, but he delivered the goods a lot more than he didn't.

As for his vocals, I LIKE THEM. He has that "insane emotional edge" in his voice that most Floyd cover bands miss. It's a lot easier to sing Dave's parts than it is to sing Roger's. I know, as I have done both many times.

Actually, even if I know those aspects of life called politics and religion are not well seen here on the forum, I do agree with him on many of his points against the Israel Government and their treatment of the Palestinian people, but just because I agree with him on that one point doesn't mean it makes me think of him as any less of a self-absorbed jerk.

I do agree with him on some aspects but I wish he would keeps a lot of his rants to himself. He wants to completely abolish Israel on a whole. Even his whole Trump bashing rants during his last tour were unnecessary.
