Some good questions, and the start of a very good thread. in fact, I think some MIDI bass synth users should create an official forum exclusively about this subject. Not for MIDI guitar, just for MIDI Bass guitar synthesizers and V-basses only. You started this thread a while ago and I'm not seeing very much in the way of replies. I know there are allot of us out there. I have had once upon a time two Gr-77Bs and G-77 controllers back in the mid 80s and sold them around 96'. I also at one time had a GR-33b that i put on lay-a-way at one time because I saw it used and thought it would be neat to have, but later after checking it out it didn't track very well so I used the store credit to purchase a blue 83' ric 4003. That was back in 91' and I really regret not getting that 33B system. I currently have a GR-20S, and the Ric 4003 makes a pretty cool controller. But that is a point I'd like to bring up. I have had the GK-3B sort of temporarily put on the Rickenbacker and I really don't want to drill and route out the bass just to permanently install the GK.
I guess I have questions concerning purchasing a decent and affordable 6 string bass to make it a permanent controller. I'm getting a little tired of putting the seemingly temporary GK-3B on some of my vintage ricks. I was checking out the Ibanez SR506 for around 6 to 700 bucks. It seems solid enough but I want to install a permanent internal GK. The basses output jack and the bottom edge of the bass seem a little awkward and narrow as far as installing the 13 pin jack securely. Most likely a big chunk of wood will need to be routed out and shaped to accommodate it.
Does anyone have suggestions on a decent 6 string bass to get for the purpose of making it a MIDI controller.
