Like I said on another thread, you can't have just one. Two in a week is not unheard of though. You need to get a fretless. I have barely touched my fretted since my fretless showed up.

The tone and B string of my fretless is amazing. Maybe it's the mahogany body. It's definitely different from my ash bodied fretted. I suppose that means I need a mahogany bodied fretted.

See...that's how it goes. Nice that you found used basses. I seem to be stuck with needing things a certain way so I have to buy new.

Ohhhh, don't get me started there. Bass Northwest has two absoutely GORGEOUS fretlesses, and one has built-in LED's!! My cards have no more room right now! Ugh.

Also, you mentioned mahogany sounding very different from ash...good to hear. I'm used to the authority that hog has, whereas this first Roscoe might be my first ash bass to memory. I definitely think ash is more tame than hog, as the same thing happened when a/b'ing two Ibanez PB775's, with one in ash, and one in hog, and they were neck-thru's, too!

This second one is cedar, which Keith says sounds like hog.

Lastly, to those of you whom it may interest or concern, I am now going to start the amp/cab-less route, where they'll be my backup rig (even though I just got a new Schroeder cab). I love my GK head, but this'll be the FOURTH time taking it for repair. I can't leave it for dead, either, or else the previous repairs will be a waste (along with the cab), and everything except the DI (the culprit) has basically been rebuilt by a master tech around here. Anyway, I just ordered a Zoom pedal, that'll go into a Neve RNDI...that's it. Check out the link to the Zoom, as it looks damned promising:

I am amp less at church.

Roscoe --> TU-2 --> MXR M87--> JDI --> FOH

Comes back to me via Rolls PM50S --> Westone UM-2 buds

I may try a Tone Hammer DI for a little more "character" but what I have now seems to work just fine.

Works great. The church has a new space/system with flown FOH and stereo pairs of 18" subs. :bassist::hyper:drool

There are a few threads about ampless/PA cab use for a stage amp/monitor. I may try that again. I love how I sound via FOH/full range speakers so maybe a powered "PA" type cab is worth a try for practice at home and those small. non-PA supported gigs.
