Roscoe Club

Here is some great Roscoe bass tone… and some pretty good players too.

Hero...Allan was the greatest!!
Jimmy was maybe the more simple player in that band bass wise over the years. Incredible support and a big, wonderful sound.
Be sure to also check out Dave Carpenter, Jimmy Johnson and Skuli Sverrisson with Allan.

Awesome tone!
I saw Holdsworth in 2003 (I believe) in Atlanta at the Variety Playhouse (a really intimate converted movie theater). I believe that Ernest Tibbs was playing bass. Good performance overall but Allan seemed quite distracted. He stood up to play solo's and then sat, turning his back to the audience and drank a beer while everyone else soloed. Very little interface with the audience.
Of course there were only groupie guys there. No pretty girls!:D

Jimmy is the reason I tried a Roscoe bass. When I picked up my 6 string (10 years ago at a GTG) I actually had a lesson with him the next day. I've heard him through all kinds of different amps and FOH and all, and he sounds like Jimmy. People say the same about me. Not that I sound like Jimmy obviously, but that I sound like me no matter what gear I'm using. We have thread after thread about the minutia of our gear yet...we sound how we sound...which I think is a good thing. I'm glad people can tell it's me playing, regardless of how good or bad it is.

What body style?
LG.

Here's a shot.

I’m sure that there’s various techniques and methods of recording involved but I’ve got to say that in all the Holdsworth videos that I watched on YouTube this morning Haslips tone is by far the best!;)

Right or wrong, to me, Jimmy is the Roscoe tone. He's also an incredible human. And at a gig many years ago, the Yellowjackets played a request for me (Motet) and at the meet and great after when I introduced myself he said "we played your song" and I was so pumped.

I got off topic and was thinking about the way people play. All different, and all great! Just wanted to point out those other master musicians as well (I get really excited when speaking about Holdsworth, and each bass player's approach)

I suck, no matter what I’m using, so I have that going for me. :D Should save some $$$ and just play squires.

I used to think I sounded the same(ish) no matter what I played, but I have noticed more and more though that I do sound different on different basses. Maybe because of using clearer/more hifi amps and cabs (Bergantino)? Or to justify buying basses? ;)

Just got back from my gig and wanted to post a gig pic of my bass because I finally captured a good shot showing that it’s not a plain black bass lol.

Really looks nice Scott! Definitely hard to photograph a dark tint like that.

I just want to know how you stay awake gigging until the wee hours of the morning. I might could handle a 7-10:00 gig but not the old school 9-1:00 AM!

I love that tune. I transcribed his solo on it from the live CD years back. Such a cool solo.

For sure one of my favorites. I came to the Yellowjackets late. Mint Jam was my first CD. I have since broadened my listening, but that album is pretty good. I do like them with Will Kennedy. I’ve seen them with both drummers. Both good but Will is just a bit above almost everyone.
