Roscoe Club

Pakkawood (same material, different name) is still widely used for cutlery handles.
Personally, I'd love to see a carbon fiber fingerboard, and I'd bet it would sound amazing.
(But not quite willing to back my bet with a custom commission...)

i know Zon used the same or similar material for their fingerboards.

wonder what their solution was.

Makers of graphite necks have been offering graphite fingerboards for years. My Modulus Q6 has a graphite fingerboard.

Modulus’ (and G. Gould, and I believe Status Graphite as well) fingerboards are “phenolic”, which is a synthetic, but not carbon graphite

Hey all,

What do you think? I have a Sadowsky Metro Jazz 4 that I’m looking to sell or trade and I seem to be a Roscoe guy.

For Sale/Trade - Roscoe LG 3000 Flamed Maple

Thought’s? I do like the Century body but this is a “classic” look to me. The stained body, maple top, etc.
While I also prefer the Century body style on a 5 or 6, I think the smaller LG works better on a 4 string. The neck of a 4 tends to look disproportionately narrow to my eyes compared to the larger bodies.

Confirmed. 34” scale. Aguilar single coils. Bartolini 3 band preamp with Aguilar preamp included if I want to switch.

Don’t really need 3 basses, but I’d have a tried and true Roscoe trio, and basses aren’t really selling right now. Or there are a lot of Sadowsky’s out there at this time.

Never played a Roscoe Custom or STD 4. That one looks really nice. I really like the Jazz p/u configuration on the LG body but I know you’re quite a Century body style fan boy.
The only thing that bothers me about that bass is the 3 bolt neck attachment. It just looks unfinished. I know it’s stable but I much preferred the newer ones with 4 screws.

I like that LG4 exactly as it is. Its 3-bolt neck looks plenty solid with bolts in steel anchors, and the surrounding neck wood not weakened by an additional hole.

Just about every Roscoe is different, and I am drawn to that, with the unique character of each being a major attraction for me. It's the opposite mindset of adoring the cookie-cutter basses, where every bass has to look and sound the same. I appreciate the nature of snowflakes, though, not needing every snowflake to look like the mass-produced plastic version on sale at Target.

Get that LG4, @SteveC . You don't see many like it, and I bet that's a sweet sounding and playing bass. If I were to have a 4-string bass with single coils in those positions, it would be an LG just like that.

Yeah, I guess it could have been like this ......

I do like the Century body. When I played an SKB it felt like a reach to 1st fret. The Century fixed that for me I think due to the longer upper horn and strap placement. I’m wondering if that isn’t as big a deal with a 34” scale instrument? The 3 bolt neck isn’t an issue to me. I know Keith added a 4th but I’m guessing the 3 boot is fine. The 5th bolt almost looks out of pose or squeezed in. It’s a tempting trade offer for sure. I’m getting zero interest on my sale add for the Sadowsky, which seems odd as they are quite popular.

Oh I'd definitely go for the trade. I just see the 3 bolt neck as an oddity. Fact is I never look at the back and 2 screws would hold the neck on a Roscoe (the way he uses threaded inserts). That neck is super stable. It just looks odd, that's all.

Sounds like a perfect trade for you, unless you require an exact Fender Jazz Bass sound. I loved the feel of my LG4.
