Consider that buying a used bass is like riding a bus. If you're waiting to take the bus to a destination in a timely manner, you take the bus that rolls up to your stop.

If you must ride a fancier, newer bus, you can wait at that same stop for minutes, hours, days, months, years, or forever, just waiting for that "better" bus. It may or may not ever arrive. If it does, hopefully you have enough money for the fare.

So, back to basses. One could buy an available bass at a really good price, or wait for another, hoping it will appear someday at an affordable price. What do we want. . ? When do we want it. . ?

I don’t desire exact Fender jazz sound. The thing about the Sadowsky is there’s a upper mid “clank” that I don’t like. The neck is just a little “off feeling” to me, and it’s close to 9 pounds.
I was hoping I could just sell it as my Cemtury 5 can do anything, but no one seems to be buying, or I’m asking too much. I could use a new MacBook Air more than another bass, but if I can trade for a Roscoe (that I assume I’ll like more because I am a bit of a fanboy) that I might be more comfortable with…maybe that’s a good compromise.

Good call, I was a tall beer away from buying this one myself.

I COMPLETELY agree with your Sadowsky Sound assessment. It honestly works better in the mix than solo, BUT i never really bonded with my Sadowskys until i realized how much the VTC tailors the Hi/Hi mid response.

Honestly, the feel of the neck carve was a deal breaker comparing the Sadowsky to like a Pedulla/Roscoe/F-Bass.

Yeah, I think so. I mean, it sounded and played fine. No doubt people are as faithful to their Sadowsky’s as we are to our Roscoe’s, but there’s just something about the build of a Roscoe. They aren’t made in Germany or imported or whatever. Even the “cheap” ones are Roscoe shop made. Not that I bleed red, white and blue or ‘Merica or whatever, as there is plenty wrong right now, but there’s something to be said about keeping it all under one roof I think.

I got a lot closer to a sound I liked when I boosted the bass and treble to wherever and then used the VTC to dial it in from there. Still, the neck feel and weight were the final factors. You have to like how the neck feels and for me weight is a thing. The LG is almost 2 pounds lighter. And both my Century and Classic P are well under 8 pounds.

i've been looking for a killer fretless.

the one i miss the most is/was my Pedulla 4 string Buzz.

honorable mention to my Rob Allen MB2.

both long gone.

seems like a fretless Roscoe is in order - comments, thoughts?

I played Pedulla Buzz basses for a long time. They are wonderful fretless basses. I made a trade for my first Roscoe which is a Century 6 fretless. I sold my Pedulla soon after receiving the Roscoe. I think Keith makes the best fretless basses. The Pedulla was was wonderful and the Roscoe much better.

Fretless Roscoes are amazing. Excellent design, quality, playability, and sound. Service and parts are readily available, if needed. My Roscoe experience is superior to Pedulla in every way. Will never go back to the latter brand.
