Roscoe Club

I have three options listed from most used to least.

For IEM only situations a Line6 PodGo with a couple different patches.

Orange TB500 + 2x OBC112. Killer rock mini stack.

Ampeg PF50T through a single 15” cab. This is also a fantastic recording amp since it doesn’t require a cab to run.

And you’re right, Roscoe’s sound great through all of them!

Sorry to start another show and tell thread but what does everyone on here use for amps specifically for gigs? I think the Roscoe's sound amazing through pretty much anything.

Bergantino. B|Amp with choice of NV412, pair of NV115 or pair of NXT112 depending on the band and gig. Just my preference but this stuff sounds amazing.

Eden Traveler 300 and 210XLT. Peavey T-Max and 410XL. Been rockin’ both over 20 years. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

Those Eden heads are great heads. One of the best sounds that I got was from an Eden WT550 and Berg HT112 cabinet. The Eden WT400 and 550, the SWR SM-400S and Thunderfunk are my favorite all time heads. Just great sound and so much more punch (IMO) than the class D heads of today. Unfortunately it's getting hard to get replacement parts to repair them now.

I recently picked up this Century 5 JMM in the classifieds. It definitely sounds different than my Century 5 PJ and both of them sound different than the Bart equipped Roscoe’s I’ve had. My current build now 6 months in the works will bring that Bart pup + Bart pre sound @blmartin2215 is describing back into the stable.

Nice looking STD+ Nate! I owned one JM model and they do indeed have a unique Roscoe flavored sound. Not at all like the Lakland (which I thought it would). Mine was very open sounding. Especially when the blend control favored the neck pu.

Some class D heads do seem to lack punch, however I have found that Genz Benz Shuttle heads and Mesa Subway heads lack nothing IMO. The Mesa WD-800 is a killer head.

Lately I've been saving myself a trip on load-in by using my Aguilar TH500 and Berg HD-212 (which the previous owner modified with some heavy duty casters for rolling around). I'm getting my tone enhancements from a pedalboard, so the amp is run flat, with the drive off.

I also have a "heavy rig" with a Baer Valkyrie amp and a pair of ML115 cabs that was my main rig in my last band where we played with a higher stage volume. It sounds amazing, but it also adds two trips to the load-in. And in the current band the stage volume is quite low due to the drummer using an electronic kit, and the guitar player running a small FRFR rig. Those are all good things, but it means the big amp rig would be massive overkill -- and would even look a bit silly when the guitar player has just a tiny wedge monitor FRFR on the other side of the stage.

I've thought of getting something in a wedge format myself. I use a powered wedge monitor in our rehearsal space, and it's perfect at that low rehearsal volume. Not sure if it would be adequate on all stages though. I wish Bergantino made something in that format. I see that AccuGroove does, but I've never played any of their gear, so it's hard to commit to the (rather expensive) purchase knowing so little about it.

Yes. The GB and Mesa D series heads do have more punch than most of the class D. The Berg heads sound really good too. I actually have not complaints on my Demeter VT-400 it's got great punch in a really small package. Still, 400 or 800 watts of class D power greatly differs from 400 or 800 from a Class A, B or A/B amp.

I've always wanted to have one of those heads that Spinal Tap used that went form zero to 11. Of course that may have been what killed off a few of their drummers!:D

As "Happy Gilmore" is the greatest sports movie ever, "This is Spinal Tap" is the same to music movies.

I bring my SKB fiver when I want a big low end and smooth mids, usually when backing up singer-songwriter-type tunes with a full band where the gig is all about supporting the artist and showcasing their tunes. To my way of thinking, the closer you can get to the tone the recorded version of an artist's song, the more at ease they'll be -- at least as a starting point. For whatever reason, my SKB really lends itself well to this.

To your point @blmartin2215 they sound great to my ear with either tube or solid state rigs, but there is a complementarty bloom when there are low-gain tubes somewhere in the chain, and they also sound great with a good compressor or two (I usually keep a Cali CB running on my board all the time in addition to the ones listed below).

I also make a point to always dial out the resonance frequency of the room with a parametric EQ pedal, this step is mandatory IMO.

With these tone considerations, these are my two favorite amp/cab setups:

#1:
> Aguilar db680 w/dbx676 in effects loop
> QSC PLX3602 (set this level carefully)
> AK H1505 (top) and AK TC115 (bottom)

#2
> SIB! FatDrive
> Eden Navigator w/Symetrix 501 comp
> QSC PLX 3602 (as above)
> 2 MAS Bodai 112s or 3 Baer ML112s

No need to go on about #3, #4, #5 etc. :woot:

I have a WT550 that is my main rehearsal amp, and I like it better than any of the boutique tube-hybrid amps that I've owned.

There are still some knowledgeable Eden techs here and there, but yeah if a power module goes out there ain't no getting another one.

When I played bass through a rig I used Genzler amps & cabinets. When not using an amp/cab rig, I used Genzler pedals with RNDI feed to the FOH.
I have the MG350/12T-V combo when I rarely use an amp. I have been trying a Stomp for my DI/IEM rig and it’s fine, but I don’t use its options for amps or effects.

I’ve been tempted by the Bergantino Super Pre and I’m sure it’s great, but the new Genzler pedals would make a good DI board as well. Not the “all in one” the Berg is, and it has comp and tuner and drive built in, but it’s also digital, and again maybe more than I really need. Idk what I’ll try next.

Thanks! Indeed it is the least Roscoe sounding Roscoe I’ve owned, yet it still retains some of that magic. With the MM pickup dimed it can cop a convincing Music Man tone but, like you, my favorite tone slightly favors the neck pickup.
