Roscoe Club

I’ve been quiet but he’s not the only one. Not waiting quite as long, order placed 8/20/21. I have at least seen the body. I’m still hanging in there.

He sent me an email stating that it had been sprayed and looked great, just a few more weeks. That was also in 2021. A year ago he told me it would be a few more weeks so I made a second $1000 payment to bring down the balance. Since then he has not responded to my e-mails and it's been radio silence. At least if he communicated with me then it wouldn't be so bad. But TWICE I've been told it would be a few weeks!

I didn't realize that you were still waiting Bernard! Isn't a lot of your wait due to waiting on special pickups (And Keith offered to finish it with standard pickups and send the custom ordered ones when they arrived)? Regardless, 2 Years for a new build is way out of my patient zone.

Doesn't sound like there should be that kind of delay for sunnycal though. Is it just a non-custom Classic Roscoe? No special neck (scale, profile or string spacing changes from standard)?

That is exactly why I will never order a custom bass!! There are plenty of used custom basses at great prices

Exactly how I feel Joe!
I've got 7 basses currently and only one was purchased new. Both of my Roscoe's were purchased used and I think I had to wait 3 days for both of them.
Those were the longest 3 days of my life!:D

He did not offer to install standard pickups. The Bart baxis pickups are not custom. Just out of stock at the time. I have seen them on sale at several vendors. I inquired about the correct size, buying them myself and sending to him but didn’t get an answer. I’ve got a similar bass so I’m not lacking anything. I’m a very patient man and not giving up… yet.

One-man shops often can’t address every aspect of a business without bottle necks or road blocks.
Sometimes trying to make ends meet won’t satisfy a lot of the customers and turning out shabby work to meet a deadline doesn’t fly very well either.
But I applaud those of you who have ordered a build from the builder! You guys are the ones keeping the lights on at Roscoe. Buying used contributes nothing to Roscoe. Right, you like his work, but you aren’t keeping Roscoe in business. ;)
I’m certain your wait for custom build will be worth it when your bass is in your hands.

Actually buying used is very much a part of the chain that keeps Roscoe in business. Many of the used Roscoes that I’ve purchased were from players trying to fund a new build. And I’ve sold several Roscoes to fund a new build.:)

Very true! Buying used helps Roscoe, once I got my SKB I soon realized what an amazing instrument it is and I always brag about the quality and craftsmanship to all my musician friends.

I brag mine up as well. I have bought both new and used. Currently both new. I’ve had my Century 5 for over 11 years. My Classic P was a gift from my wife about 4-5 years ago. I am pretty set with these two basses, but a Classic 5 jazz wouldn’t be a bad addition either. Nice backup for my Century 5.

He didn't hesitate to reply to my emails when I was ordering it or making a payment ($2000 was paid down).
Yeah.

My most recent experience is from 2019, and it was great. But it's 2023, so I get it.

I know that he has a family house on the beach that they head for a few weeks over the summer, but that would only explain very recent delays.

Like I said, keep calling- be the squeaky wheel, get the grease, and please report back.

Independence day special ....... Some Roscoe's from days of old.

Joe loves that pin router… :roflmao:

I had posted some pics comparing the bridges when I swapped the one on the “Red Debbil.” It is also 100% reversible, so a pretty safe change.

I just bought a new Roscoe century 5 and I want to replace the bridge as well. witch one is the direct replacement .708 or .750?

For the stock 18.3mm Roscoe, it’s the .708. If you’re looking for a black aluminum one, I’ve still got a like new one ;)

Yep, Matt is correct. The .708 is the correct bridge spacing.
Although that equates to 18mm and not 18.3. Keith made that change some time ago (although not publicly).
