Roscoe Club

I have a Roscoe SKB-3005 S/N 4571 that I bought used on TB about 10 years ago. I've done a search but can't determine year it was built. Any suggestions shy of contacting Keith? It's not important enough to me to bother him when people are waiting for their basses. I'm just curious. Thank you in advance.

Well #6022 is in the classifieds and it’s a 2009, so it was made before that ;)

Short of contacting Keith (which may not even be worth your time as I’m not sure how thorough their records are), you could go thru the classifieds and see if there’s any similar ones. There’s also the FB group “Roscoeheads”, which I think has some non-tb’ers too.

Does yours have the gotoh tuners and the wilkinson bridge?

Also don't forget that the serial number is assigned (or at least it used to be) when the order was placed, not when it was completed. I had plenty of orders take 1-2 years to get built just because I asked them to schedule them slowly.

+1 to all the above.
Another thing to look for is the neck scarf joint. Keith quit doing that in the late 90’s. I know my 1994 model had the scarf joint and Wilkinson bridge. My 2000 model (started in 1999) had the Hipshot bridge and no scarf joint. Gotoh tuners went around the same time but still are used if Keith runs out of Hipshot Ultra lites.
Post some pics of the bass (Talkbass and Facebook Roscoeheads). You never know, one of us may have owned back in the day.:)

I asked earlier about the build year for my SKB 3005. The guy I bought it from hasn't been on TB for several years but here are the photos he posted when I bought it ten years ago.

My mid 90s LG 3005 fretless is 3359 and it has the scarf joint, the better of the two Wilkinson bridges, and the Gotoh tuners.

I really prefer the scarf joint neck shape to the volute shape on my 2019 LG (that has a serial number in the 6600's).

I bought scubaduba's stunning Redwood fretless 5 LG a little over two years ago and now that I'm able to travel to the 'States (At last! Curse you, COVID!) my pal who's been looking after it in Michigan will be bringing it to Vegas. I've no doubt it'll have been worth the wait!

I think I'll get him to check it in one of the following, since the Roscoe OHSC isn't sturdy enough for checked travel but too large for carry-on...

Gator GTSA-GTRBASS ATA Molded Bass Guitar Case with TSA Latches

SKB 1SKB-44PRO Pro Rectangular Electric Bass Case

...but I'm open to other case suggestions if folk have them.

Congrats in receiving your awaited bass. Of your choices, the SKB is stated to be for Precision/Jazz basses. The Gator appears to be more universal, stated to be for "standard" basses.

Do you travel often as to need a flight case? Or, is this more of an "isolated need?" If the latter, maybe consider removing the neck for carry-on luggage transport, while the body can be placed with check-in luggage. Regardless, enjoy your new bass!

Wow! That’s like waiting for a long new build!
Congrats! I bet you’re pumped!
If you want a really nice case, I’ve heard great things about these:

Kapsule Hybrid Gig Bag - Black | Sweetwater

It might be overkill for what you need but it would travel really well.
If you don’t need one that heavy duty, the two you’re looking at would work fine or the Mono cases are great too.

Oh wow! What a bass. Man, that is a killer Roscoe both in looks and sound and all. Just stunning.

Here’s some pics of the Roscoe LG3000 I bought back in 1991. #2091. It was brand spanking new and hanging on the wall at Mars Guitars. If I remember correctly, I paid around $1,200 including the HSC.

Check out the scarf neck joint, Wilkinson bridge and sealed Gotoh tuning keys. The oval inlays were an expensive option at the time.
