Roscoe Club

Here’s some pics of the Roscoe LG3000 I bought back in 1991. #2091. It was brand spanking new and hanging on the wall at Mars Guitars. If I remember correctly, I paid around $1,200 including the HSC.

Check out the scarf neck joint, Wilkinson bridge and sealed Gotoh tuning keys. The oval inlays were an expensive option at the time.

Man Gary! You’ve been a Roscoehead since 1991!?! You might have owned a Roscoe before anyone on this thread.
I bought my first Roscoe in 1996. I think the longest I went without owning one since then has been 3 months. The most that I’ve owned at the same time was 3 (nothing compared to some of the guys on this thread).

A little back story on the '91: I had just joined a country band (my first country band, because the girl singer was so good) and wanted a bass besides my Ric 4001. The Ric just doesn't look right for a country band IMO. I decided to go to Mars, the store not the planet, and pick out the best bass that they had. I spent a couple of hours picking basses off the wall and trying them out in the private sound room. A Warwick, a Zon, a couple of Fenders. And then the Roscoe. I'd never heard of that name. But it immediately caught my ear. I was especially amazed with the Bart pre. Nice tones! So, while I didn't think it was necessarily a country music bass, I said, "why not"? And the guys in the band loved it. I played the heck out of it for a couple of years in that band and in a couple of other bands. So, I've owned maybe 7 or 8 Roscoes over the years since then. And, I placed my first custom ordered Roscoe a couple of years ago, similar to my first Roscoe, except for some fancy wood and 5 strings. ;)

You can't go anywhere, Joe. This forum would not be the same without you!

The discussion about first Roscoe basses reminded me that my first was bought used about 1995. It was an SKB 6 and I didn’t bond with it for some reason. Next was my Century fl 6 that I traded for in 2007. Since then I have bought and sold quite a few and presently own 4 Roscoe basses. All are really nice and I enjoy them very much.

My LG 5 is the only one I would consider trading or selling. It is a great bass but sounds almost exactly like my Century 5 and I favor the Century body shape. One of our group has a lovely Century 5 with jazz pickups and I offered to trade him but he didn’t follow up on my offer.

Here is the LG Custom 5 in case someone is itching for a trade. It is like new in the Roscoe hard case:

I play 6’s a lot these days so perhaps I may be able to trade for one. If not, I am happy with what I have.

This is my close friend's Roscoe. I think it's a Century Custom 5 model. I just replaced a scratchy volume control in it. It was a bit of work, due to how neat and tidy the wiring is inside the compartment and I wanted the results of the replacement to be as tidy. And I was able to find the exact OEM model 25K pot for the replacement.

I really, really do like this bass. I'm not actively seeking to buy a Roscoe, but he's close to retiring and a time or two, has mentioned that he might consider the notion of selling it. That's three layers of "maybe" it would have to go through....:D. But I would buy it should he decide to sell.

He tells me that this bass was a 2017 NAMM show bass is how he wound up with it. It's the first bass Keith is showing in the video...

Here's the bass. Serial # 6752 or 6753, it's a little difficult to make out. I really don't consider myself a Roscoe club member, but because of this bass, I started following along. And I wanted too show this one off since I'm now kinda close to it....:D

That’s beautiful. I love the fretboard.

I bought my first Roscoe new in the mid ‘90s from Fat Sound (now long since closed) in Cary, NC. LG 4 string with Wilkinson bridge, active EMG pickups, passive electronics - vol/bal/tone, 3 piece maple/Purple Heart/maple neck, spalted Brazilian rosewood fingerboard and translucent green gloss finish over I believe an ash body. I found the guy that bought it from me in 2011 here on TB and have communicated with him a couple times. He has declined my soft-pitches to buy it back, which I would do in a heartbeat!

I played one of those older Roscoes with the EMG pickups and I was quite surprised at how good it sounded. Much clearer open tone but a great sound. Just more proof of how many wonderful flavors of Roscoes there are.

I just got back from an amazing week at California Brazil Camp in Cazadero, CA. I played electric bass with the Spok Forro/Frevo Ouqestra, bandolim and violão 7 cordas in Allessandro Penezzi's choro ensemble, and pandeiro in Ami Molinelli's advanced pandeiro class. What better instrument to bring to tackle Spok's insane forro and frevo large ensemble arrangements than a Roscoe LG3006? Pictured here with Spok and percussionist extraordinaire, Annette Aguilar.

I would like to thank Mr. Moses for this fine custom LG 3005. It’s the OG classic Roscoe with slanted Barts and Uber comfortable. I think this particular bass has changed hands a few times with members in this group I can say that it’s not going anywhere now .

Hey Brad! That must have been an incredible experience!
I wish I had a Roscoe just like yours but with a Century body and a shorter scale. Yours has the classic Haslip look for sure!

I've been trying to get out there for some years now. Glad to have finally made it and wish I could've stayed for the second week with Jovino Santos Neto but there's always next year.

Your build sounds awesome. I would definitely find the Century shape much more comfortable while sitting. The LG is do-able sitting but not ideal for me since I like to wear this one a little higher and it doesn't rest on my legs without me hunching over. I'm still searching for the perfect strap length.

No Roscoe build on the books for me. If my financial situation changes at some point then I would in a heartbeat.
