Roscoe Club

Hmm. Sent a picture of the bass to my wife because of the unique wood. She likes cool stuff like that. Told her it's fairly rare, comes from Laos, they quit exporting it in 2016, one of a kind sort of thing. She asked how much. I said too much (although a lowball offer may be entertained) but would be a nice alternative to what I have - this one having an Aguilar preamp and MM pickup/placement. Would be a great bass for the cover band. She said sounds like you've already talked yoursel into it. Not a glowing endorsement, but not you don't need another bass, either.

The saga continues.

"Despite its not being listed in the CITES Appendices or on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, the government of Laos has just recently (May, 2016) banned all rosewood and ebony exports."

I was not questioning your knowledge of wood and customs regulations, just poking fun at the method to justify the purchase…

Yeah, I thought it looked not Aguilarian. I wonder what it is?
No idea. I recall that @Pacman had a beautiful Monkey Pod top Roscoe with Seymour Duncan Alnico V MM pickup, and series/parallel switch. That bass sounded amazing, and was tonally different from the one in the Bass Chicago clip.

I did about 750 miles of driving Mon-Wed of this week for work, but was able to weave in another trip to the shop to pick up my bass! Very happy to have it in hand now. Spent about an hour there while he finished the setup. They are working 7 days a week right now trying to get caught up. Here are the specs:
SKB-3005 Standard Plus
Exhibition Flame Maple over Swamp Ash body
Gloss finish - Green/Purple burst (the purple is dark)
BEM fingerboard, Maple/Maple/Maple neck
Roscoe Bartolini pickups and Preamp

Only had a little time to fiddle with it last night after getting home (it was late), but it plays and sounds great!

We are just green with envy Nate! That turned our really nice. Love the contrast of the maple board with the headstock and body.

That is so sad. Didn't you used to have a Roscoe with a MM pickup placement?

Not just *a* Roscoe with a MM pickup. I had the 1st one ever made. The day it was finished was the day it because an option on all of them.

My pickup was in the MM position, while most (if not all the other ones) made have them in the Lakland position, if I recall correctly.

I had the Bart MMCBJD3 in my bass for a while. I never quite got along with it, but the pickup isn't in the traditional location being further back towards the bridge. It was too thin in that location to really dial in a MM tone. I crafted this image a while back to get an idea about pickup locations. The light yellow lines give an idea where various J+MM basses fit with an actual MM. Note: Images are scaled one to another to avoid the 35" vs 34" differences.
