Roscoe Club

There’s a nice Lakland 55-02 Deluxe fretless in the classifieds. lined ebony board. Great bass. $1,400 shipped. Less than 1/2 of a used Roscoe.

I know I could play and sound fine on basses 1/2 the cost or less of mine, but the 2 Roscoes I have will stay forever for a few reasons. However, any additional "experiments" will probably be a lesser (in cost anyway) instrument from now on.

I have a buddy who quit playing a while back and had a couple Yamaha basses he never used and said I was free to use them if I wanted. TRB5 and Nathan East, the original first version. That one needed a new pot (or maybe preamp) so that's getting done right now. I also have my G&L JB2 thats getting custom wound pickups in it as we speak. I have plenty of basses from which to choose.

What would Christmas be without Christmas songs and what would Christmas songs be with out Roscoe basses?!?
With that in mind I fired up my Reason recording software and tweaked one of my favorite modern Christmas songs "Mary Did You Know". This one features my Roscoe fretted and fretless basses (DR Pure Blues on my fretted and EB Cobalt Flats on my fretless).

Well I was drinking my coffee this morning and did a search on YouTube for Roscoe basses and came across a video that our own Adam (@steelin4u ) posted about 3-4 years ago.
Really great production and demo of the subtle sounds of various configurations of a Roscoe.
I though that it deserved to be re-posted.

I’m interested in buying a Classic Custom J 5 I ran into. Can anyone help me with the specs please? I know it has 19mm string spacing at the bridge and weighs 10lbs. But does anyone happen to know what the nit width on these are by chance. Also the neck profile. I can’t seem to get any info from their site. Thanks

Can’t help you on the neck profile but the Classic 5 is 1.95” wide at the nut and the radius is 9.5” That’s based on a Gard post back in 2017.

I had a Classic PJ5 for a very short time. Beautiful bass and well made but the neck was very wide, thick and uncomfortable for me. Unfortunately, It was nothing like the traditional Roscoe neck I was used to.

Well, it is a different series. It seems they were going for that market, right? People who like the 19mm spacing, the "classic" bodies and necks? I have a Classic P and it's a great bass, but it isn't a "Roscoe" neck. It's a "Fender type" neck. I would get a standard Century/LG/SKB with P and/or J pups if I wanted a 5+ string "jazz" or "P" bass with a familiar Roscoe neck.
