It was a while ago. I just wasn’t really doing a good job. I actually was surprised when they asked me to be one. I just didn’t really know what I should be doing. I’m kind of glad they asked me if I wanted to not be one.

I saw this and realized I had the money because I have been selling off gear to reduce my debt. My "problem" is that my Century 5 is so good I just can't think another bass will be better or as good....even another Roscoe. Both of my fretted Roscoe basses....the Century 5 and my SKB 6 are simply outstanding.
I played a gig recently in a nice venue and used the SKB 6. The horn player on the gig has played with me for years but has never really heard me play electric bass since I play upright on most gigs. He is from Chicago and has that edgy personality that some Northern folks have. He is likely to offer valid suggestions for improvement with that cutting tone to his remarks but this time he complimented me on my playing and said that he did not know I could play electric bass like that. This is high praise from him.
I don't relate this to pump my ego but rather to compliment Keith and son on the inspiring qualities built into the basses. I was playing through my Mesa D-800+ and one Subway 115 and the SKB tone was just killin'. When the tone is fantastic and the bass fits you perfectly and plays so easy it transports your playing to the next level.
Now that I have completed preaching to the choir I will practice for my next gig on electric with a new group playing jazzy blues and classic rock. Robben Ford, Leon Russell, Delbert McClinton, John Patton, Donald Fagan, Lee Morgan and big John Patton. Fun stuff to play.

That does sound like a fun gig. I got together with some guys to do some Robben Ford stuff earlier this month, he's had some GOOD bass players, including a guy named Roscoe, who didn't play a Roscoe... anyways, we're still looking for a drummer before it'll really go anywhere, but it'll be some good and challenging practice for me...

Same logic as Chuck. I don’t know what would be better than my Century 5. That and my Classic P are all the Roscoe’s I really NEED - and can afford.

That’s a bit more like the Steve we know!
My Century 5 has an ash body, Maple top, the Maple/Purpleheart/Maple neck with a Wenge fingerboard. My SKB 6 has a heavy Mahogany body, Maple top, Maple/Purpleheart/Maple neck with an Ebony fingerboard.
The Century has a big round tone with a lot of balls to it. It speaks with authority.
The SKB has a real Fender jazz bass vibe to it. There is a subtle snarl in the tone of this one. Both sound fantastic in the mix.

From time to time folks post asking for advice on good gig bags for their Roscoe so I thought I'd pass along some info on one that I just purchased (actually a Christmas present from my wife that I picked out).
I've been using a Mono M80 bag for around 14-15 years and it's been my favorite for a long time but I've got to say that the Gator Icon bags are a step up (at the same price; actually cheaper since Sweetwater discounted it for at $200).
The Icon bag is about as close as you can get to a hard case without the weight (very similar to the Incase bag that was really popular 10-15 years ago). I went with the green because so many of my basses are shades of brown and I thought they would look nice in it. It really looks like a nice piece of luggage (and my wife loves it in green; nuff said!).

The price is definitely nice and they look great from the pictures. But real world use is the true test. Super light at 5 lbs.

It is a really nice bag and I have been using it exclusively since I got it. All those pockets are nice and it is well padded to protect my basses. Gator is making some good bags these days.
