I've been using a Mono M80 bag for around 14-15 years and it's been my favorite for a long time but I've got to say that the Gator Icon bags are a step up (at the same price; actually cheaper since Sweetwater discounted it for at $200).
The Icon bag is about as close as you can get to a hard case without the weight (very similar to the Incase bag that was really popular 10-15 years ago). I went with the green because so many of my basses are shades of brown and I thought they would look nice in it. It really looks like a nice piece of luggage (and my wife loves it in green; nuff said!). :D

That’s a sleek looking bag. Plenty of room for longer basses, too.

I recently got a Mono Vertigo…the upgraded version…such a great bag, but absolutely fails where almost every other bag also fails….it sits too high past my head….hits doorways when I walk through them. I’ll never understand why almost every bag has this problem. My old Mooradian bags got that completely right, but doesn’t have the great modern padding that most others have. Still looking for the right bag.

Andy, on bags that I’ve owned I found opening up the straps more allowed the bag to sit (ride) lower on my back.

On this one opening the straps up all the way unfortunately isn’t enough. I was looking to get short straps to extend the length, but then the padding won’t be on my shoulders. Still a great bag all around otherwise. I got spoiled with the Mooradians as far as adjustability and comfort. If I could get what those have, plus better support and padding for the bass, then it’d be a total winner.

One of my best friends started bestbassgear, and now has fatbasstone.com ….we’ve talked about available gig bags a few times, and how neither of us feels that the perfect bag exists….he looked into having some made, but the cost to do so is steep to get started. It doesn’t seem like something that should be so difficult to figure out, especially considering these companies get feedback from musicians, but I still haven’t seen one come together fully yet

My preferred gigbag atm…the updated TKL ‘stealth’ model. Year’s back, my Roscoe P4 came in a TKL, but the newest stealth model has far superior padding, still thin depth for upright closet storage, and sturdier form factor (yet super lightweight)…

I recently received my custom MTD 30” scale bass in a TKL stealth guitar bag, which made me order the bass version direct. Now I have several bass versions. I agree, there’s always something that could be improved upon with every bag…in this case, it sits a little tall over my head, but that’s the only negative for me. If you’ve had one of the older TKL’s from Keith—check the updated model out (they’re around $170, when you get it in the shopping cart)…
