Roscoe Club

Someone PLEASE buy this gorgeous and unique Roscoe! I can't say I've ever seen another with a walnut body.....It just dropped in price and is making me crazy....if it were a 34" scale then I'd have found a way by now....

That is a good price. Classy looking Roscoe too. The walnut body is bit unusual for a Roscoe. I had two Warmoth basses (one Jazz and one Gecko) with walnut bodies and they sounded great. Actually reminded me of maple (tone wise). The Jazz was solid walnut and was a fretless. Lots of nice upper mids and Awesome mwah.
I sure wouldn’t be afraid to give it a try.

Does anyone have the exact measurements of the bartolini soapbar pickups in the 4 string LG basses? I’m thinking of buying one, but switching out the pups would be my first move

Idk about 4-strings. I think with 5's and 6's, the Roscoe spec Barts are P4's, but there is no P4 for 4-strings. But if you're looking at buying a Standard or Standard Plus model, they usually don't come with Roscoe spec and will have P2 size. I have a Standard Plus LG which came with Aguilar DCB's, and they're P2.

But I'll throw my 2cents in, similar to MTD's custom Barts, the Roscoe craftsmanship is above and beyond, but some of that exclusive magic sound comes from the Roscoe specific Bartolini's.

All this being said though, there isn't really any set "this is how a Roscoe comes", and you should inquire with the seller as to what pickups are currently in the one you're looking at.

Thanks for the reply man! Yea after some research it seems to be the P2 is the go to shape for Roscoe 4’s. And yes the Bart sound is what I’m actually trying to get away from, so in essence I want the bass for its craftsmanship but to change the inherent tone completely

You really should hear the bass first before buying parts to "improve" the sound...my opinion of course.

@Funkinthetrunk for the un-initiated that might be good advice but I know exactly what I’m looking for.
Gonna strip the bass passive and add either Kent Armstrong or Curtis Novak pickups with a very specific wind for each pickup

So I notice when I plug in that there’s nothing and then like a volume is being turned up the sound comes. Once there there seems to be no issue. I tightened the input Jack. I replaced my batteries.

Just started doing this. Any ideas? Tried different cables as well.

Maybe I’ll pull the Jack again and see if I can just pinch the prongs together a bit. Make it more snug?

Sounds like something in the preamp.

Cables, connectors, jacks are either making connection (sound) or not (no sound).

I was hoping it was the Jack. Maybe it is yet but I think I’ve done all I can without replacing it. I wonder what about the preamp would cause it to act like that? Have the volume swell after a cable is plugged in. It seems to be fine after that.

Is this on your Std Plus Steve? If it consistently does that it's most likely the preamp. Typically, a cable or jack wouldn't do that. It would be more intermittent.
It could also be your amp or whatever you're using for signal output (audio interface, headphone amp, ...).

It is my fretted standard plus. I used the same cable and interface with 2 other basses - my fretless century and Classic P - and they were normal.

So you’re saying I may need a new preamp?

Is this the replacement?

Please take it to a repair person first. It could be just a loose connection
Pretty sure it is not a loose connection (we kind of already discussed that).

Possibly a capacitor in the preamp is going bad - they build up and then discharge electrical energy.

Normally, this would occur so fast as to be imperceptible.

Or possibly another component in the same circuit as the capacitor that is going out.

I would take it to a technician.
