Roscoe Club

My current preamp doesn’t have an active/passive option. The one on Sweetwater does. I guess a good option to have?
Yes, IME, it is a nice option. If I batteries die mid-song, pull passive saves the day.

What do soapbar pickups sound like passive? You often see P and J basses passive, But rarely do I see a "soapbar" bass passive.
In my experience, soaps sound pretty much the same passive as active, assuming that preamp gain is equal to passive, and that preamp settings are flat. However, IME there is a volume difference between passive and active, because I boost gain with the preamp, cut bass, and boost mids. In this scenario, switching from active to passive results in a volume drop and tone difference.

So that's where my old SKB is...I was the original owner, year 2008 I believe.
I bought it in April 2013. I had been tracking it for 1-2 years.. It's managed to survive the bass merry-go-round when so many others haven't. I love the one piece Buckeye front and back, the wenge wedge neck, and the tone in general. This one also has the Aggie OP3 preamp.

Well, I ordered the preamp. My guy said it's a pretty easy install as it's all prewired from the factory. Once I receive it I'll set up a time to drive down (it's about an hour) and hopefully get it done while I wait to save a trip. I have a gig on Saturday so I'll use my friends Yamaha TRB which is fine but it's no Roscoe. I hope to have my bass back by the next gig at the end of the month.

I have been playing my Classic P a lot lately so that will work for most of our songs. Sounds great, especially I find with a decent dose of compression. I wish I could find a Classic Jazz to round things out. There's one on Reverb but it's a little pricy for me right now. I think I could order a new one for $2,600 if the sheets on the website are current and my math is good. I could see maybe $2K.

There are maybe 5 songs that really "need" the B string. I can cover the rest with a quick "D" tune or the Pitch Shift to "Eb" with my Stomp.

Used gear is selling slow right now, they may take 2k if you offer.

The thought had crossed my mind. Worst they can do is say no I suppose. I have been looking at a used Fender Ultra that has a really nice neck. The preamp isn't bad, but I'd probably use it in passive more often anyway. Just not sure I can swing either right now. Spent $3K on a car (and repairs) for my son. Bought him a guitar recently. New dryer. New bathroom plumbing. It all takes a toll on "disposable income" for dad.

Just got this in today, bout to replace the pickups and preamp…
The serial number is 9660
Does anyone know when that might mean this bass was made?

Merry-Go-Round? WTH?! It originally had all Bartolini electronics. I put in Nord dual coils and Aggie OBP3 myself. I also wired it to split the coil (push/pull) on one of the pot, can't remember which...if it hasn't been removed. I could've made those buckeye knobs, too. Yes, that bass was very well optioned from the factory.

By merry-go-round, I mean the basses that have gone in and out of my ownership, quite a few, including high end basses in those days. This is one of a few that didn't move on, it's that special...

Unfortunately, Roscoe serial numbers often get out of sequence and a higher SN might be older than a lower SN.
The only way to know for sure is either the Roscoe letter (provided with bass when new) or a call or text to the shop asking Keith to check his records. However, with a SN that high, I’d say it’s probably fairly new.
Beautiful bass!:)

Koa and BEM is the quintessential Roscoe, imo.
I'm not gonna argue with you. It's a pretty classic look. Back when I first started to look at Roscoe I thought the two color fingerboard (purpleheart maybe?) was a real Roscoe tell...and the LG body with a spalted top maybe.

I'd like to think that mine is a pretty nice example of a later "2010's" Roscoe. :)

I love the two color fingerboard. I posted this pic a few weeks ago of the used one I recently got.

To me the two colour purpleheard FB is the quintesstial Roscoe look. It's probably because they seemed to be extremely popular around 2000 and almost all the Roscoes I saw in person to try had that FB or the dymondwood ones. I think it's pretrty firmly established as a uniquely Roscoe feature.

Gard was the one that had them using ash bodies, and probably the koa tops as well. The old school Roscoe’s had the two tone Purple Heart boards and usually mahogany bodies with maple tops
Something like this...this is a spanish cedar body. They often painted/tinted the body red which look very nice.
