Roscoe Club

I usually shy away from showing work-in-progress in favor for holding out until something is completed, but I’m really stoked for this one. Wanted to make my own wood knobs and it’s become an entire new hobby (wood turning). I had this idea for some Roscoe-inspired knobs.. first test is looking pretty good so far, pictured here among my pile of “learning how not to make knobs”.. I like the nub of purpleheart exposed on top like an indicator dot, but I think I’m going to aim for capping it with different woods to match the body. This test here is just hard maple with the purpleheart and veneers, but I have some nice curly flame maple blanks I’m going to stain and use as caps for the first set.

Very nice! Those look great!
You should connect with TB’er and Roscoehead @JohnnyR
He makes amazing looking wooden knobs (along with Christmas ornament and many other things).

Just be aware, work turning can be very addictive........

The texturing looks great. Just don't be afraid to experiment. I had some success using varied grain orientation on caps. I especially liked wenge caps cut a flatsawn orientation. Yields a unique look and avoids many of the difficulties you can run into with wenge.

HAVE FUN !!!!!

We presented our annual Christmas Presentation this past weekend. 6 shows and around 12,000 total in attendance.
I played in the orchestra pit for most of the show, but I did get a chance to perform one number with 2 of our guitar players. That was by far the most fun number. We did a really rocking version of "Carol of the Bells". Full orchestra (6 violins and 3 cellos). It was the first gig that I used the Koa Roscoe with the newly installed Pope Flex Core. Great tone.
Here's a couple pics.

Jim.
I sent a bootleg copy (copy of a copy) to your email. It’s not mixed and all the camera angles aren’t added but it’ll give you and idea of how it sounded.
They’re mixing down and adding all of the camera angles and it’ll be released Christmas Eve. I’ll post a link after they release it.
Merry Christmas!

Tonight Christmas party set up. Yamaha MODX6. Radial Pro DI for that below, as well as my Nano with my GLXD+ and HXS powered by a CIOKS DC7 underneath. That goes to a Khan DI to a little loom to FOH.

Classic P with new LaBella “Sean Hurley” flats. Sounds fantastic. The Century 5 with nickel D’Addario rounds for a couple songs where I need a B string.

It’s amazing how much of an effect/influence strings can have. I had TI’s on my P for a long time. I liked the but it never seemed to work live. I know. TI Jazz Flats. Pino strings. But I tried some LaBella’s last night (the Sean Hurley gauge) and man, what a difference. This bass really kills it now. Except for when I “need” a B string, this bass is getting all the play time right now.

I still adore my 5’s, but for now I’ll join the party and go P.

I have TI flats on my SKB6 and my Century 5 and they work great for me. Might be the difference in amps we use. I use Mesa Subway amps and the TI's sound very good in the mix.

Merry Christmas Roscoeheads!

They released our Christmas presentation Christmas Eve so I thought that I’d share it.
I play in the pit the entire presentation except for one number (which is the only tune that you can see the Roscoe). It starts at 38:10.
Have a blessed one!
