Roscoe Club

That’s normally what I’ve done (sent the factory plastic covers to Roger @thg to use as templates). This time though,I though the bass was new enough that the current covers that Roger had programmed would work.
Lol
I was Wrong!:banghead:
I think the covers look pretty nice, and you already have them! It's cool to me to see the ash grain and that flat wenge grain. I'd dowel it up.

Here is a fun hypothetical: if you were looking at buying the covers online, liked them, but knew you'd have to dowel-match the holes to mount on your bass, would you have made the purchase?

Probably not on this bass Adam. Now if my bass had a wenge stringer in the neck (instead of purpleheart) I might. I’m still not sure that I like the look with the purpleheart.

How do you guys feel about the B strings of these flatwound sets? I'm definitely considering putting a set on one of my 5s
I have had slightly lackluster, slightly less-defined results with TI Jazz Flat B strings. My last purchase was probably 2016 or so. I have had tapewound low Bs that I've liked better.

This Century 5 J/MM is sporting Ernie Ball Cobalt flats and they sound great. No issues with the B string in my experience.

Thanks Staccato! This Roscoe is my only 5 string. I went through a bit of a gear purge and sold my other fivers: Sadowsky, Ken Smith, and Warwick. I decided to hold on to the SKB. Did I make the right choice (he asked on a Roscoe thread :D )?

As much as I love the build quality and tone of my new (to me) Roscoe, I just can’t get used to 35” scale. Gonna have to let her go, but I’m definitely a lifetime devotee of Keith’s work now, and will be ordering one some day (hopefully soon)

That’s the reason I am selling mine. The i think is a combination of bother the 35” scale and the SKB being smaller and where the strap connects makes my left hand extend further out.

That’s why I play the Century body. The strap is at the 12th fret and the “reach” to first fret feels better than on a SKB or LG where the step is at the 14th fret and feels like it pushes the first fret out further.

My first Roscoe was a gorgeous quilt maple SKB with a beautiful red finish. I couldn’t quite get comfy with it. Fortunately there was a guy close by that had a Century he let me try. Now I have 2 beautiful Century 5’s, fretted and fretless.

Like the "Song that Never Ends," the discussion of favorite Roscoe body styles goes on and on, my friends. My favorite bass body style is Roscoe, whether LG, SKB, or Century. All are great original Roscoe creations.

And, while @SteveC favors his Centuries, he also loves his Classic. It's Roscoe's adopted child, just "raised up" proper in the Roscoe house : )

Found my first Roscoe (an LG-3005 Custom) here on TB classifieds back in 2013. Took it to Brazil with me, and it stayed there after I moved back to the states. This is what we call in simple terms "a mistake."
Got my second Roscoe (an LG-3005 Custom) here on TB classifieds in 2018. Although it was a real stunner (the cocobolo top and rosewood board were both incredible) and played and sounded as good as it looked, it was a bit over 10 pounds on the strap. Too heavy for 4+ hour nights, so I reluctantly sold it.
Focused on other things for a spell, but started looking again locally a couple years ago. I really needed to find one that came in right around 8 lbs ... and that takes some searching. Nothing came up within my budget or drive radius, but I kept looking.

I had saved this one on Reverb, even though it originally was listed at a price that was far too rich for my blood. When the seller dropped the price months later, I contacted them with an offer, but we couldn't meet to make it work. Another month or so went by and I tried again at the same price. This time they accepted, and I am thrilled.

Standard Plus featuring an ash body and birdseye maple fretboard w/ bone nut, Hipshot USA tuners and B bridge, Bart pickups and 3-band ... and LED markers. The last bit I could've lived without, but because a few of the markers are dead, I was able to get a nice discount. Anywho, the best news is the weight: 3.65kg ... which hits right at 8 lbs. Having owned two LG-3005 models in the past I already know I love the sound, look, feel, and build of these amazing instruments. Now I will be able to love the weight!

The hardest part will be waiting well over a week for it to arrive!😬

Are those EMG style knobs that are on your bass? They look great! Really like the white dot as a position marker.

Quick follow up question to the Roscoe 5 owners here: do y'all use tapered B strings, and if so ... is there a "prescribed set" that Keith & Co. prefer?

As a fan of super-tight feeling B-strings, I know a 135 *should* be more tensioned than a 130 ... but is that the case with the tapers as well?

Keith specifically states in his Certification/Spec letter that they do not recommend the use of taper wound strings or contact core strings due to issues with intonation and setup.
