Hey Funky
Both of my Roscoes have spanish cedar bodies. I am big on mahogany as my PRS #11 from 1978 is honduras mahogany - the same stuff they used to make high end marimbas out of. Light dry and very resonant. At that time, Paul would suspend the wood blanks from eye hooks attached to the ceiling. He would then strike the wood with a marimba mallet and if the blanks didn't ring for at least 15 seconds he would disqualify the wood as guitar wood.
When I told Keith this in 1999 he recommended the spanish cedar. I am not sure what type of mahogany Keith had around at that time but there was already a ban on Honduras Mahogany. Keith felt that the spanish cedar had many of the same qualities as the honduras mahogany. He also thought it would suit me better than the mahogany he had available at that time.
Spanish cedar is used a lot in the construction of high end cigar humidors.
I had him dye the spanish cedar to match the purple heartwood on the back of the neck, so you can't see the grain very clearly.
I am very happy with it.
Good Luck - sounds like you might have a new one in the works!
