Roscoe Club

Bass arrived about an hour ago. VERY nice. Sounds just like I remember Roscoe's sounding.... punchy, burpy, with a strong dose of that Bartolini 'ping' up top. VERY articulate.

Put a new set of DR Hi Beams and they work great. Dig them on this bass.

Not going to go into a lot on the bass, since everyone on this thread is much more familiar with these basses than I am, but just wanted to post again how 'unique' these basses are. Totally signature tone, which I've always described as kind of 'classic Bartolini on steroids'.

The initial note attack on this bass is scary. Massive 'bap' and a ton of what I call 'space between the notes' (massive initial attack followed by a relatively quick decay.... it has tons of sustain, but a huge spike at the initial note attack to my ear). It reminds me quite a bit of my Sadowsky Modern that I owned a few years back with those big soapbars stacked close to the bridge. Massive articulation and low mid push, with a bit of 'choke' in the upper midrange, resulting in that unique 'ping' upper treble/top end.

Interesting combination of 'aggressive but pure'. Not a lot of growl and grind (by my definition of those terms... kind of the low mid P Bass roughness, or the upper mid J bass roughness). The treble kind of 'sits above' the overall voicing of the instrument.

Anyway, it delivers what I was hoping, a totally, completely, different playing experience from my P and J bass.

I again can't get over that massive 'atom bomb' initial note attack. Very unforgiving instrument that seems voiced to mash through a mix versus sit in or under it. Fun instrument. Beautiful craftsmanship and it plays like butter.

I enjoy having that somewhat 'rough' feel of the wenge stringers on the back of the neck. I had a wenge neck MTD a while back, and that is an interesting 'feel'... interesting combination of 'waxy' feeling with some roughness. The neck seems to be (similar to other Roscoe's I've played) super dense and solid. This bass, similar to some of the MTD's has what I would describe as a BIG B string sound... that somewhat overwhelming 'he's playing the B string' massive bigness, which is for many a good thing.

Really impressive instrument. I really appreciate a builder like Keith or Mike Tobias who 'builds in' a very strong, signature tone to the instrument.

Again, uniquely voiced instrument that really plays up and supports (IMO) that classic Bartolini tone profile.

It is a keeper! I'm hitting the road, but after I get a bit more used to it, I'll put up a clip with the Glockenklang/Bergantino rig. It is quite something!

Psyched! How do they sound compared to the Barts CB? And can they be used for the LG slanted placement? Thanks.

:)

They're a bit "grindier" than the CB's but similar in many ways as well. I'd call 'em "aggressive CB's" - open, not compressed sounding, bit of an edge to them, not as strong in the mids as the custom wound pickups.

Yes, they are bar magnet pickups so they will work for all of the basses.

:)

Very interesting on the DCB pickups! Will they only be offered on the Custom and Signature lines or will they make it into Standards in time?

At this time, just OEM availability on Customs and Signatures.

However, they are a direct-replacement for the DIY crowd...and...is anyone familiar with the Bajos Exclusivos LE Standard Plus series basses? ;)

On an "LE" we can "play" with available specs (the Bajos Exclusivos one has a matching headstock, for example!)...and maybe some intrepid retailer will be considering doing something....different...with electronics on an LE.

Wow! More aggressive than the CB's? So how bout the Nordies you had in Boobinga?:ninja:

Is this some implication that Greg will soon be a Dodge dealer?

Because.........

This is how I roll!
