Roscoe Club

Gard took much better pics than I can, just before it shipped. So, here's a few that he took of it.

The action on my fretless VI feels a little high to me (previous owner liked it high he said). Anyone know the factory specs for a Roscoe fretless setup? I'm curious about string height from bottom to fingerboard, etc.

I can take it to my setup guy, but I may try it myself first. I can do a decent fretted setup but fretless setups are a new thing. I've generally heard to get the ends of the fingerboard to my liking, then take the rattle out of the middle with the truss, then intonate. That could be way off but sounds reasonable.

On fretless, I get the neck almost completely straight, then lower the strings until they start to "choke", raise slightly, and done. Intonation is more art than science on fretless.....;)

I'd like this too, frankly... Lots of setup measurements out there, few for fretless.
I've got mine where I've decided to leave it alone for a while but I feel some of the positions have a little more buzz than I think I want. It was fine until summer, and I kinda decided I'd see if it came back in for Winter once the weather changed. But I have adjusted the truss rod and saddle height along the way as well - trying to find the balance between 'really low' and 'not too much buzz.'

I'll try to get you my measurements tonight - I should be writing them down anyway.

This is one reason I'm really looking forward to a factory GTG - love to have "The Guys" set it up in a "reset to factory" and measure everything after watching how they get there...

Guys, I recently picked up a Century Standard black onyx and played it out for the first time this weekend. First, a pic. This is from the previous owner (thanks James!!)

I am having Nordstrand Fat Stacks and an Aguilar OBP-3 installed before I do my the real "Big Reveal", but hope this pic will hold you for now! :)

Anyway, I've had a fretless SKB-5 for 12 years and have always enjoyed it. This is my first venture into another Roscoe in about 8 years - and I LOVED IT! How it hangs on my shoulder, the look, and the feel were all wonderful! The Bart tone is not my cup of tea for a Roscoe fretted, but I'm working on that. In short, the bass excelled! It never fatigued me, was easier to play than its predecessor, and every note from top to bottom (yes I play them all) was there!

Once I get the Nordstrands installed, I'll give ya'll another review. I anticipate it slicing the room in half!

"It makes me Happyyyyyyyyy...."

I have to say that Roscoe is the one bass that I've owned in the past that I miss, and I had had a couple of them. They are so comfortable to play and they sound like nothing else out there. I love the standard Barts myself. Great basses. Got to hear Jimmy Haslip a few weeks ago with Allan Holdsworth. Jimmy had such a big, beautiful sound with his Roscoe. I remembered how much I like that sound.
