Roscoe Club

I have quit GAS'ing for a 6. I want to love them but I end up selling them. Love my 5. Like the "different approach" thing with the 6 but gonna pretend I'm not reading these posts and be happy with my 5 and keep my GAS for a fretless 5.

Flats definitely alter the sound.

The D'Addario rounds really bring out that unique Roscoe Fretless aggressive tone. They really give me the best swell and MWAH.

But TI Flats bring smooth and mellow by the bucket full, and you gotta love the feel.

Only one solution, I need two Roscoe Fretless basses, one strung with D'Addarios and the other with TI Flats.

The rule I heard was that "it's not real until you post a picture". Well, let's make it real.

I picked up this Century Signature Fretless Six in a trade a while back (yes, it was originally Gard's ).

It's GREAT !!!! It's just a complete package.

The stock black metal knobs just didn't do it for me, but with that crazy one piece Bubinga top I didn't hold out much hope of finding suitable stock for making knobs that would "fit" the look. Well, as it turns out the guy that I buy most of my stock from just so happened to have one piece of Bubinga hidden away that he was saving for a rainy day. I talked him out of it and the results follow (yeah Gard, I saved the old metal ones if ya want 'em). :smug:

 Turned out pretty good. No more changes to be made to this one. I'm through ;)

Beautiful JohnnyR!

I just saw this one in person and the knobs match even better in person.

Speaking of new wooden knobs ........

JohnnyR just finished a new set of Mac Ebony for my Roscoe 3006 fretted.
Here's a couple of pic's .....

Any of you Roscoeheads that want some nice wooden knobs made should contact JohnnyR. Excellent quality and great prices!

I've been wanting wood knobs for all of mine. I'll definitely be getting a hold of him!

With the Barts in the J, the bass with the CB's was quite a bit more open and articulate.

Installing Nordstrand NJ5F single coils in the J opened that bass up considerably, but it still isn't quite as articulate as the bass with CB's.

I have tried, Nord NJ5F, Nord NJ5FS, Barts, Fralin, Aguilar and Delano pickups and Bart, U-Retro, Aguilar OBP3, Demeter and Pope preamps in my JJ-Ash bodied Century and none of those combinations made it articulate. If I could do it over I would go with the soapbar pickups or put the JJ pickups in the same position as Roscoe sets the soapbars but probably would just go with the soapbars. Don't get me wrong, the bass sounds great but Roscoe's standard placement of the pickups sound the best to me with the Aguilar DCBs.

I have thought about rerouting the bass to fit an EMG40 size pickup and may pursue that option in the future.

How Bout Them Cowboys!
