Roscoe Club

I only gig with my Roscoe basses, period.

(Oops, hope they don't see my profile with other guitars listed.. :ninja::hiding:).

Well, I do have other basses BUT when the gig is really important and I need to 100% I always choose my Roscoe SKB 3005.

We could easily do one that would "match" your fretless quite nicely - lots of killer flame maple in here!

:)

I've been tempted to match it, but I think I'd go quilt. First, I have a spectacular flame top so that's covered. I have my beautiful Koa topped BEM boarded ash fretted so that's covered.

I've always liked quilt (like my short lived 6) so I think I'd do a nice quilt again, maybe with a Pau Ferro board and I'm not sure of a body wood yet,

Century Standard 5 Plus - $2,775
Alder body
Quilt Maple Top - maybe a laminate of some kind between them :-)
Natural Oil Finish
Pau Ferro Fingerboard
3 Piece Maple Neck
Aguilar OBP 1/AGV-JJ 5 Pickups - $150
Black Hardware - $75

$3,000 on the nose.

Seems like a nice contrast to my current fretted bass. A little more "traditional" than the soapbars bartolini and swamp ash.

The Roscoe OWNS the fretless territory! Just amazing!:bassist: I get compliments on its tone ALL the time!

My Wal Mk1 and the fretless SKB 3005 I owned.
The two best sounding fretless basses I've ever played.
Only sold it due to a left hand injury. ( Can't do 35" any more)
But rest assured my next fretless 5'er will be a 34" Roscoe.

DA HOPPAH!!!!

...love that bass, the player...he's OK, if he would get over that whole Patsy fetish...

;)

Steve - we got some KILLER quilt, and a few other "interesting" options as well, when you're ready to get it started. Alder, definitely, absolutely, alder, by the way. You'll thank me, Jeff, & Pacman. :)

Mojo-man, definitely. I think our fretlii are THE stuff. I may be biased, but I've played 'em all, and never had anything that was quite as responsive and killer, including a Zon that I thought would never be topped...until...

Jon, body parts man, body parts. You have bi-lateral symmetry for a reason, man - do you really NEED 2 kidneys, 2 lungs, 2 eyes, 2 ears, 2 legs, 2 test....er...um...yeah. Anyhow, body parts. :ninja:

I was thinking alder. Typical jazz body, right?

Great minds think alike. This is what's been haunting me. To the point of thinking about selling something....

I strongly prefer an alder J bass. I really like poplar too. Ash works too but I like alder and poplar much better.

Tops don't do it for me, generally. I have been entertaining the idea of a Roscoe Century Standard 5 (or 6) with Aggie pickups.

Believe me, you'll get over than when you try a mahogany bodied J bass. You'll never go back. :bassist: :hyper:

My alder Century P/J 4 is magic. Seriously the best sounding bass I've ever laid hands on - many Roscoes, vintage Fenders, Sadowsky, Lull. It just has IT in spades.

That said your preference for mahogany and clips of the monkey man led me to order something fairly similar that's in the works now :D

I love the way my mahogany fretless sounds. I've debated a mahogany fretted "jazz" as well, but I've always had a "jazz" type bass with a non- mahogany body and it's a tone that I like and am a little "known" for amongst my colleagues.

The reason I asked if any of the Roscoe faithful played something else ever was because of my want for a more "typical jazz" type of tone and wondering if I was going to have to go "somewhere else" to get it.

I LOVE my Roscoes without a doubt, but there is an inherent tone, just like any great bass maker, and its not really that "classic jazz" tone - at least not in mine. I didn't want it to be. I love that my Koa bass sounds like it does. I'd just think I'd like that other tone option as well.

Excellent avatar, by the way :)

Thanks! I love the Saints! I would say the same...but I'm not a Tigers fan. :D

I had a Stingray with a Mahogany body (I think I actually messaged you to talk about Mahogany bodies) and it just was not for me.

I'm sure you've posted a pic before but I'd like to see that one.
