Roscoe Club

So for a little variety at church today I rolled to favor my bridge pickup for a couple tunes. Kelsey’s and drummer - who I’ve played with for years. - looked at me after and said in shock you bass sounds fantastic. Definition and growl. So I rolled off a little treble (instead of boosting bass) and added a little miss and it sounds pretty awesome.

I had been favoring my neck lip for a while, trying for a “P” sort of thing, but maybe this is the way to go. They never say anything about my tone, good or bad, so this was fairly unusual.

On the other hand, fretless is really just a play-at-home toy for me, so I'm not sure I should go to all this trouble. And I should keep a Roscoe with a headstock for posterity.

Definitely may not be worth losing your "head" over ...... Maybe in this case, one "head" is better than none!:D Should I stop or continue?

I'm sure looking forward to checking out your headless STD next weekend! That bass looks so stinking cool!!!:bassist:

We use IEMs so the tone we hear sounds nothing like what people are hearing in the house. I use a unit for both my bass and IEMs so during practice I will walk off the stage and pull my IEMs out to listen to the house while playing and that is how I set my tone. Our main sound guy is pretty amazing and loves bass. I have the J-Tone control plate and in active mode I have both pickups all the way up, Bass between 1-2 o'clock, Treble flat at 12 o'clock with passive tone set between 2-3 o'clock. We have three bass players, one plays a Peavey Millennium 5 and the other uses a an Ibanez SR506 6 string. I have also played my SKB3005 and my LG3005. Our sound guy Josh Oliver (original drummer for Decyfer Down) thinks my Classic sounds the best in the mix of all the basses.

So, any RDU (Raleigh-Durham, NC) Roscoeheads:

I will be performing tomorrow night with The Ramonas, a female-fronted (and drummer) Ramones tribute band, at The Pour House in Raleigh.

....but, Gard, THE RAMONES? Aren't you some snooty jazz-fusion/pro-rock snob?

Well, I play one on TV, but....

The whole story:

The guitarist in the band, who is a dude, is a good friend and someone I have done a lot of recording for with his original material. Last Friday night, the regular Ramonas bassist, who is a "chick" (no offense to any female members), was in a car accident and ended up with 4 broken ribs, a punctured lung, and a bit of damage to her right hand from the air bag. This is a gig they have been angling for for years, and in an effort to see that goal reached, they called to see if I could jump in and cover it.

Being the guy I am, I can't let good friends miss out on this opportunity, one they had been hoping for for years - so, I break out the guitar pick and....GABBA GABBA HEY!!!

Why am I putting this here? Well, if anyone wants to catch the prototype P Classic 5P (passive) in action...it seemed the appropriate tool for the job, so it's going with me! We should hit the stage at about 10:30 or so, and the place has a pretty impressive beer selection for those so inclined! Come on out and check out the bass (and me trying to remember the 18 songs I've never heard before and learned in 4 days! :eek: ) - should be loud and fun!

....twenny twenny four hours t'go....I WANNA BE SEDATED!!! :cool: :bassist:

Here's hoping there's a record exec (do they still exist?) in the crowd, you get signed, and you get to play that stuff every night for the rest of your life. Proto punk FTW.

We always thought that you'd make a good chick bassist! :D

Seriously, it sounds like a fun gig! ..... and you don't have to worry about messing up that new Roscoe P-Bass. It already looks really broken in!:)

....oooohhhhh you meant "fun".....yeah, that it will be. :D

..... and you don't have to worry about messing up that new Roscoe P-Bass. It already looks really broken in!:)
