Roscoe Club

First, the quality and craftsmanship on the Standards are the exact same as Customs and Signatures. The biggest differences are the flat top, three-piece maple neck (same construction though), and slightly less expensive hardware. The playability and tone are the exact same. Some of the best sounding Roscoes I’ve played and owned were Standards.

Now, for the electronics. IMHO, the OBP-1 is the absolute best preamp to pair with those P/J pickups. They’re already pretty hot and a mid control is just superfluous. Just a bump of bass and slight tone roll off of it gets too harsh are all you’ll need. I’ve owned six Roscoes with swamp ash bodies and trust me, you’ll have plenty of mid.

Hey Joel! Good to hear from you Bro!

Roll Tide!!!

.... and of course War Eagle! :)

Missed you at the GTG a few weeks back.

Yeah I’ve got you and @JLY to blame for pitching over into the Roscoe world lol.

Owed you one (actually 3) for pitching me the Genzlers!

You’ll love a Roscoe...I really liked the Century line but the SKB fits me better. Seriously considering selling three very nice Laklands any getting a Classic 5’r

My only question is: what is taking you so long?

Well I'm officialy a Roscoe owner with this beauty coming my way. I wasn't crazy about it only having the OBP-1 preamp but they did a video for me and it sounded amazing. One of the prettiest tops I've ever seen and the tone control knob really adds some flavor to the tone. I spoke too soon earlier

Congratulations!
She’s a beauty!
Welcome to the club...you won’t be disappointed ... but you will be gassing for another one soon.

Nothing against Ibanez or Warrior, but they are not in the same league as a Roscoe

It will work very nicely with your Genzlers

Well I just got my first Roscoe in and I must say this thing sounds amazing and is built as good and even better as any Boutique bass I've had. I'm seriously impressed with the pickups and tone of the wood combination. The Plek on this baby is goingt to allow me to easily set it up the way I love. Passive or active gives me unbelievable tone. I may have just become a Roscoe man lol.

I would dare say that the Roscoe Century Standard Plus 5 is probably the finest, most affordable, hand made (at least hand finished) in the US bass that you can get. Add in the price point and what you get in instrument and service and you have the best deal out there. I have tried to make myself like/play other basses, nice basses, and I just can't do it. The neck on mine is like it was made for my hand. I never get tired playing my bass.

I really wish I would have stuck to my plan and kept one of the fretless versions I had made to match it. I thought that I wanted the 6 they made (another amazing bass) for me back and it turns out I am just not a 6 string player - try as I may. I am pretty sold on Roscoe basses. I liked my Modulus and Laklands and Smiths and Sadowkys and others, but there's something about the neck, string to string tone and balance and the light weight in particular of my bass, that makes it my go to for the last few years.

I do like the look of that bass! Really a classy looking Roscoe.

Congrats on FINALLY giving a Roscoe a try!:)

Trust me, a used customc with the STD Roscoe Barts and Bart 3-band pre would compliment this one nicely!
And the best part is that they can be had for around $1800-2400 depending on instrument age, condition and options.

.... and I just love the carved tops on the customs! :bassist:drool:bassist:drool

And you need to shorten a standard wrench to fit into the cavity.
It's a good heads-up, but YMMV. My standard wrench fit just fine. Maybe it depends on how the guy shaping the groove was feeling that day. I got a full set at Lowe's for not much money.

And for completeness, IIRC, the bridge saddle Allens are 1/16".
