Roscoe Club

@mmbongo

I had some major issues with my last 2 Warrior purchases and especially my dream build. It seems as though the quality has really went down hill. After sending a new bass back to JD 3 times and him sending it back not fixed I finally said I’m done. I purchased 8 Warriors from him over 2 years and the quality just wasn’t there for the money involved. I sold every Warrior I had and some at significant loss.

Daaang I hate to hear that. I know those basses were not cheap. Beautiful though!

I don't remember who posted the following, but

There are the three body styles, side-by-side. Aesthetics and personal taste play a big part in which you prefer.

I prefer the Century. Most of my playing is done while sitting and the lower cut-out shape on the century is comfortable and positions the bass just right. Plus the larger body size seems to fit my larger body size. The longer horn does make the instrument "hang" better as SteveC said.

First let me say that I've never played an LG or an SKB. But you could fill the Grand Canyon with the number of other basses that I've played or owned, and I will say without a doubt that the Century body style is the most comfortable body I've ever played. The only thing that has come close for me is Carvin's Bunny Brunel bass, which they no longer make. I also have two USA Spectors which I absolutely adore and will own forever, but they don't become one with my body like the Century's do.

Sorry to hear that. I just checked their website. For the Gabriel model it says "Gabriel’s Personal Private Vault of aged air dryed mahogany, averaging over 150 years old sing the melody of heaven . The feel is an experience ."

Uhm yeah, right...

One of the best basses I've ever owned was a Warrior and one of the worst basses that I've owned was a Warrior. Not being said to slam JD (Warrior) but it's always been hit and miss with them. It is what it is.

And on the topic of Century body style verses LG and SKB, all 5 basses that I own are different brands and all hang (and for that matter sit) differently. I just adjust the strap and play. I've owned many of all body styles of Roscoe's and just never felt a significant difference. I guess that I'm just not as sensitive as some of you guys.:)

Truth is, I'm really an LG kind of guy with straight P/U's but I really like the SKB body style too.
To each his own. Body wood, tops and electronics are much more important to me.

Still have my 99 Warrior which is like my baby when toured/played out for year, but is currently a closet queen.

I have never played an SKB, but own to two LG3005s and a Century. The LGs are perfect level/feel/height/Weight. I guess I need to buy an SKB to finish my hypothesis.

I dig the LG5 - got a new one coming in soon - straight pups, 34" scale, sienna burst. At first I thought it was too smallish, but after scoring a pre-owned one here on TB, I can't put it down. I did put down my pre-Gibson Tobias Killer B5 though - and it was my main bass for years - now it's my backup! I really wish I had tried a Roscoe sooner because I tried a lot of other basses over the years and always went back to the Tobias. I've been a fan of Jimmy Haslip for years and I think that's why I finally decided to try a Roscoe. I had my eye on a Century at first - then a SKB - then a LG5 came up for sale here and I pulled the trigger on it - glad I did!

What does everyone think if these Knobs To replace he plain black ones in my new Roscoe. Just not sure what I could use to replace the bottom portion of the stack knob.

Those would match beautifully!!

By the way...I lurk here even though I haven't owned a Roscoe in some years. I think they're really special basses and very unique soundwise. The ones that I had had were always clear and sounded huge. Great, great basses.

IIRC, Gard mentioned that Roscoe sources their OEM knobs from AllParts. When I checked out the site they had quite a variety available (including for stackers).

I guess I've never missed/needed the lines. The center click is good enough for me I guess. Mids a little more, highs a little less than center and I'm good.

Yeah, I'm with you Steve. I typically dime the volume, blend based on what I'm hearing (or wanting to hear) and run the 3 EQ's relatively flat (and tweak just a little it I'm wanting more (or less) of anything. Truth is, in some venues I couldn't see the knob lines if they did exist (due to dark stages and bright lights in my eyes).
