looking to buy a Roscoe now after selling my MTD and F Bass.. need a new lady in my life to inspire me.

Question- i played a century standard 5 and the neck was pretty fat a nd chunky felling.. not slim enough for me.. do the century stand plus models have the same fat neck profile? I played a SKB custom 5 and the neck was perfect so want to make sure I end up with that slim neck. I'm considering a century 5 plus or custom or a SKB custom.. looking for a used one. thanks guys

Roscoe has a "Slim Neck Profile" option. You would need to order a new one with that option, find a used one with that option, or you may be able to send one back and have Keith reshape the neck. Most find the standard size neck very nice and not too chunky at all.

Has anyone here tried the DR Pure Blues on their Roscoes? I’ve never used a set u til this Cocobolo bass and they sound absolute amazing on it. First time trying these strings but they are very nice.

Not on a Roscoe but on several other basses and I agree they sound fantastic. Might be my new favorite string. Everybody seems so excited about the Dunlop nickel superbrights but I don't think those hold a candle to the Pure Blues.

I'll have to try those Pure Blues strings. They will have to go some to beat Dunlop SuperBrights but I might try them next go round. I had avoided them before because I assumed from the name that they were Pure Nickel and would have no bite or zing but I think I saw that they are actually not Pure Nickel.

I'm a Dunlop SB man myself and the way the Pure Blues sounded on my Roscoe I'm a beleiver. I ordered 2 more packs and will try on my other Roscoe.

What are the Pure Blues? Nickel wounds?

DR describes them as:
  • Quantum-Nickel Bass Strings on Round Cores
  • The Best of Steel with Nickel Feel
  • FAT mids, BIG bottom

They aren't as zingy as Hi Beams but they are still bright. Much smoother feeling than Dunlop strings. Pretty low tension too. Dunlop Super Bright nickels are clanky and grindy sounding to me. Not bad, but just raw and unrefined. Not so with DR strings.

Did you get them from Bass Strings Online? I see he's a LOT cheaper than everywhere else so not sure if that's his normal price or if he's having a sale on them. If they are on sale I should order soon :)

I recently ordered two sets of the Dunlops from Bass Strings Online. Too good of a price to pass up. Took 7 business days for Jason to actually process the order though and almost two weeks to get the strings.

Yeah I think everybody and their brother stocked up on SuperBrights during that sale. I know I did! Dunlop has enough trouble keeping up with demand for SuperBrights as it is, then slash the price and it's that much worse!

Nice. I've only heard one Roscoe with a walnut body (and it was a solid one piece; beautiful!). It was much brighter sounding than I would have originally thought but it had a really nice tone. I'd certainly enjoy taking that one for a spin.
Then again, I'll say it one more time (actually I'll say it every time I get a chance ;)). Those Roscoe's with mahogany bodies sure sound good. :bassist::bassist::bassist:

But hey, at the rate you're going you'll can try one with a mahogany body within the next month or two.:)

1+ ...and if that mahogany Roscoe has a Demeter preamp onboard, it's a killing machine!!
