Roscoe Club

I got this from a TB'er in a TB deal.. iirc there was only 3 x 3 bangers made .Yes it is tuned E A D . I think originally it was because of a Tony Levin fan . The bass is all Roscoe minus one string :D it really keeps you focused on the meat of the part and it currently has me looking for Harmonics and notes in new places

I might try these DRs. I have SB Nickels on my Roscoe, which I like ok, but I’m really digging the sound of the steel SBs on my Jazz, but not the feel so much.

One question I have, though, is why are the Pure Blues 5 string sets like $8 more than the 4 sting sets? That’s a really expensive B string!

DR describes them as:
  • Quantum-Nickel Bass Strings on Round Cores
  • The Best of Steel with Nickel Feel
  • FAT mids, BIG bottom

They aren't as zingy as Hi Beams but they are still bright. Much smoother feeling than Dunlop strings. Pretty low tension too. Dunlop Super Bright nickels are clanky and grindy sounding to me. Not bad, but just raw and unrefined. Not so with DR strings.

Confusion says: “ A bass player without his “G” string is like a spy with no Mo-jo”.

Has anyone here tried the DR Pure Blues on their Roscoes? I’ve never used a set u til this Cocobolo bass and they sound absolute amazing on it. First time trying these strings but they are very nice.

Yeah. I really like the DR Pure Blues. They sound very similar to the stock Roscoe D'Addario's but seem to have just a little more growl to them. To my ears they sound some where between a traditional nickle and SS string.
I did go back to the D'Addario XL's on my Roscoe but still use them on my Zon fretless ($18 verse $30-35 the main reason).

I recently sold a Smith, Maruszczyk, and Bossa to fund the purchase of an oboe for my daughter... and leave me enough left over to get a Roscoe. :D I'll be back in the Roscoe family soon.

Man, its a sacrifice though. I love Smith basses and I had searched for a Bossa UJB for several years... finally found one and man are they killer. That Bossa was one of the best sounding basses ever. HUGE and punchy and full. Really clever preamp too. But the net result is helping advance my daughter's musical skills and I net a Roscoe. It's all good.

What does a decent oboe go for?
