Roscoe Club

Not cheap. I think you are quite a bit off on your numbers too. An average intermediate oboe used is in the $2500-$4500 range. Once an oboeist advances they require the full conservatory key system. Now you're easily in the $4000-$7000 range used. Her plastic Yamaha starter oboe retails for $1750. Crazy. Could get a used Roscoe standard for that. ;)

Oh well. I'm a proud dad. And I still have a Roscoe on the way. :)

Eek - that's insane. They must make them by hand. Now, you could have gone used and tried to convince her it was new! :D . Fox Renard 333 Conservatory Semi-pro Oboe, Professionally Adjusted, Protec Case!

Guys, I'm looking for a Roscoe fretless 5, and looking to trade the *original* Roscoe MusicMan styled bass for it. If any of you guys hear of something, let a brother know...

Question for Roscoe owners, Do any of you guys use wireless with your Roscoes? I'm wondering what works well with these basses?

I have used the Shure PGXD14 Digital Wireless System for years and love it. When I bought mine years ago it was about $450 but now I think you can find new ones for around $300. We have a big stage at church with 6 wireless mics running and 7 sets of IEMs and my signal has never dropped. During practice I will walk off stage 4 to 5 rows back to listen to the mix with no delay or dropped signal. I can't tell the difference in any tone compared to my 18' Mogami cable. I have had no reason to upgrade as it works flawless. I use PowerX rechargeable batteries which work great in this unit.

One of the other bass players bought the Line 6 G70 and seems to like it a lot. He was telling me he can dial in cable resistance which can add some dirt to the signal? I asked him if he uses that function and he said no he just uses the normal signal. One thing that is cool, if I bought a body pack you can program two different body packs to the unit so if we switched during a service I can step on the pedal switch a couple times and to change channels. It also changes color so if he set himself as blue, the second body pack could be set to green so at a quick glance you can tell if the unit is on your channel.

Has anyone here tried the DR Pure Blues on their Roscoes? I’ve never used a set u til this Cocobolo bass and they sound absolute amazing on it. First time trying these strings but they are very nice.

I have used the Pure Blues and Lo Rider Nickels on my Roscoe Classic Custom and didn't care for either, I prefer the NYXL strings on the Classic. I haven't tried the Pure Blues on my SKB or my LG, I like the way the Sunbeams sound so I haven't switched.

You should get the MM converted to fretless. A Roscoe MM fretless 5 is quite something, let me assure you. :bassist:

That is something I considered. Maple fingerboard, though. Not sure I want to deal with that situation, you know?

I’ll have to say that I was pleasantly surprised at how much mwah and growl your MM Roscoe fretless had. Unfortunately it cost quiet a bit to convert a fretted bass to a fretless (to do it right). Plus, I suspect Jon would want a Diamondwood finger board. No sense spending all that money when someone out there would be willing to trade their fretless for Jon’s fretted.
