Very good things to think about. I'm not likely to be storing any wines over $50 (most will be 10-25 I'm sure, with a special bottle or two), so I'm more catering to what the instruments need. It's about 63-68 degrees, and I'm going to be adding some extra humidity control for the winter months here. I have a whole house humidifier set to 45-50%, but it is much lower in the deep cold days (28%) so that the windows don't drip water. I'm currently looking at various options (hygrometer with various cheaper passive or mist humidifiers, or a stand-alone digital units). Any suggestions for either bass care or wine care?
I have gone years with instruments in cases or hanging on walls with no damage due to temp/humidity, but my Cordoba C7 bridge snapped off in November. My streak of no environmental damage has been busted, so now I need to do more to care for my instruments.
I've read that instruments do well between 45-65% humidity, and wine corks like it to be 60-70%, so I'm going to be aiming at keeping the central ventilation system closed off in that room, and humidifying the crap out of it in the winter. We will see what the summer brings for the space, but I measured it at 65 degrees and 55% humidity last summer.
