Okay, @campbems, you can show those Roscoe basses since you admit your insanity in letting them go!! 
That white classic jazz for $1,500 is tempting me again. I just can’t decide if I want a P or a really nice J. I have my Tribute G&L JB-2 that my wife gave me that a nice J but it’s no Roscoe. Then there’s that nice NOS Fender Select P at a local shop for $1,500. Overpriced but I bet I could offer $1,200 and get it. I just don’t know what if anything I should do. I don’t NEED either and I have been a 5 string guy forever. Sorry, sometimes it helps to post and get slammed a bit.

Well I've got to say that Shane has kept those Devon's longer (without posting a for sale thread) than anything I can remember him owning. That must say something to how he feels about them. Those Ibanez, Warriors and Roscoe's sure flew through his hands.
If you've found YOUR bass, and it's Devon, then good for you Shane. They must push all of your buttons. Maybe you're a high end Jazz kind of guy.
I've honestly played everything out there (except Devon I suppose; and maybe a few other off the wall brands) and nothing's been any better (or as good in most cases) as a Roscoe. At this point in life I'm tired of looking.
As for me and my Family, "we rock with Roscoe"!
I've been blessed to own and play some really nice basses over the years and Roscoes are most definitely in the top 2 brands I've owned. Keith runs his company right and continually takes care of the customer. If I had @JOME77 and @Nightman and probably even @SteveC money then I would have never sold my Roscoes to buy the Devon's lol. However my wife has assured me I'm a 1 woman and 2 bass kind of guy.

Great tone, Love Love Love these basses. I love my Modulus and I've owned MTD's both are great but the SKB just sounds the best for ALL types of music in my opinion. A classic rock tune like this proves it.

--> You certainly have been blessed over the years and Keith has a well-oiled guitar making machine, so why go elsewhere?

--> Seems you did buy those Roscoe basses, so you were blessed to have your own money to do that and didn't need someone else's money nor Steve's strings cache'. However, no Roscoe owner would ever loan money to someone to buy another brand. That goes against the Roscoe Owner's Creed!! So, what really happened here??

--> Okay, now we are able to understand and see what's really going on. Using the word 'assured' here kind of softens things up a bit, doesn't it?

As I ponder my tone a bit, I wonder if it's the soapbar pups that I'm not liking? I favor the neck if I'm going for that a more old school - for lack of a better term - sound and sometimes I favor the bridge if I want a more growly, modern type of tone. I get close to those tones with my current bass as is. But...
Would I maybe find what I am looking for with a set of Big Singles or Big Rigs maybe. Before Roscoe I played a lot of "jazz" style basses. Maybe I'm looking for my "old" sound again? When I go bridge on my current bass and dial in so e"growl" my drummer really likes it. Maybe Im full of crap. Not sure right now.
If I could be sure I wouldn't miss my B string I'd try that Classic with the hum canceling Lollar pups in the classifieds. Just not sure. If I have a B and don't use it that's fine. If I don't have a B and want it, that sucks.

That’s the first way to hear what they sound like. Ear to upper horn too. Then plugged in I use as little eq as necessary to enhance that.
Meanwhile for my tastes DR Sunbeams can really bring out the most of some Roscoes. I’ve played a Roscoe where the best strings are the D’Addarios. The switch from D’Addarios to Elixirs made a meh Fender P outstanding. Acoustically it is now deep and rich sounding. Cheapest easiest tone swap is string changing.
Thanks! I used the Roscoe at a jam session yesterday. The tone just fit in really nicely.
Those storms that rolled through Georgia and our South Fulton area last night really had me concerned! I got my wife and I in the best location in our home and just remained calm and in positive spirit!
I even gave my basses the best protection I could provide, so last night was the first time all of my current basses were off the wall and in their cases!!

@gbartist, beautiful Roscoe's, but that first one with the Birdseye Maple fingerboard is NICE!!!
Sunbeams? Never tried them on my Roscoe. I really like the DR Hi Beams though. They have a little more bend in them than the DaDdario XL Nickels. My owners sheet says it was strung with DaDdario XL Nickels and they do sound good but I like the slinky ness of the DR's better. It seems Daddario is the default string a lot of makers ship it with. Modulus is the same. Is it because they are pretty neutral and medium tension? They don't really stick out as bright or muddy, just kind of well rounded.
Nordy's are great pickups for sure. But for a fretless, I tend to gravitate toward the Roscoe Barts. They tend to add just the right amount of compression for my ear.
Not many things are as personal as fretless tone.
That one was a custom build for Gard. It spent several years as the banner on the Roscoe Website.
