I tell you, adding the Roscoe Bartolini and getting those 3-way toggles really give my Spanish Cedar fretless a wider voice spectrum. If you have a Roscoe with Bartolini CB pups, I would certainly make that change and mod from there as desired.

@JOME77, I think Steve and Shane are just not themselves tonight. One day this way and the next day another. If I were you, I'd get the Fender P bass and keep it moving and just let Steve drool all over those stash of strings. So, are you getting a five string or four? Have you decided on which color scheme yet?
If I was @JOME77 or @SteveC and wanted a P bass there no way I would look at a Fender. I would try to buy that Cocobolo Roscoe 5PJ as I’ve played about every model Fender there is many Times and the That Roscoe is far better in every way.
I don’t know. I think part of the mystique of the P bass is the neck and shape and all that. The Roscoe is a superior bass but it isn’t a P really. Maybe I’m all screwed up. And yes, one minute I’m “stay with what I have and be happy as many people would kill for my bass” and then I get all “every bass player should have a P bass” so I don’t know what to think.
There is a sweet Roscoe Classic passive PJ at Rocket. Just sayin’...

I'm thinking that I'm going to sell all my high end basses, purchase a used Fender Jazz 4, Fender Precision 4 and MM Stingray 4. With the money left over I'm going to buy a zero-turn lawn mower (and an allergy-proof suit) and cut grass for everyone in the neighborhood.
That'll take all my spare time away, keeping me off of Talk Bass, and that alone will make me more content!

Instead of wasting your money for a allergy proof suit go ahead and purchase you a straight jacket, because you will be crazy going from what you have now down to what you mentioned lol.
I have had similar thoughts (minus the mowing) but now that I am down to my one Roscoe I'll keep it as I wouldn't make that much selling, and I really like the bass. I have my G&L JB-2 that is basically a passive jazz 4 so if I pick up a P of some kind I'd have it covered. I sound like me no matter what I play, and no one really cares but me.I hear you Steve. With all this mixed emotions over what we want our basses to really sound like and how much better we'd sound if only the bass was a P or J or P/J or J/P or H or H/H or H/P or H/J or CB or A/E/I/O/U, I'm going to have a GTG at my place and we can all just come together, with whatever you have been blessed with, and just have us a great time fishing and eating and drinking and playing our basses, and having us a good ole time AFTER we finish building the 3 x 30 ft stone retaining wall I need built to replace the old railroad ties!!! Who is down with me??

It is ridiculous, as most of us probably sound like ourselves no matter what bass or rig we're playing. I know that's the case with me. I usually end up finding "my sound" or what works for me or the band or whatever and that's it. And that's fine. It worked for all the "famous" players we're trying to imitate so why not us. Maybe soeone will try to get MY sound someday.
I was told once, using an old amp of mine (I traded for something else) that was available for a jazz reading session at the local store that my sound was "baked into" that amp.
Still, it's fun - and frustrating - sometimes to go through the what if's and if only's. Like that Roscoe Classic 4 string jazz that's for sale for a great price. I want to get that not because I NEED it but it's a great looking (and probably sounding and playing) Roscoe for a fantastic price.
