Spanish cedar body, myrtle top, maple neck, and wenge fingerboard. Bartolini pickups.
This demo of a Roscoe similar to that cocobolo for sale in the classifieds really shows why I should buy it...
Sounds like a P (and J) but with the Roscoe neck and body and build quality. I must find a way to buy that bass.

OK, so this happened last week -- picked up this LG from fellow TBer ivlucas (great guy to deal with BTW). Bubinga top over ash, neck is wenge over maple.
First impressions:
- Has the older Bart electronics -- I think they've been described as a bit "wooly" -- but the lows all the way down to the low B are massive and clear. Impressed so far, even though some of the higher mids seem to be missing from this setup. The money frequencies are spot-on, though.
- Has a set of stainless strings on, currently (D'Addario ProSteels, I'm guessing) . . . string tension is noticeably higher/tighter than your typical 34" neck, and even feels a bit tighter than my MTDs. Will try to get used to it, probably not a big deal . . . I'll check this forum's older posts to see what other string suggestions y'all have made for Roscoe 35's.

Looks like a really thick top too! Bubinga with ash creates such a nice tone (on a Roscoe).
I was just kidding about the purchasing the PJ!
I recently purchased a Sadowsky Deluxe Satin as I felt a need for a change. In process of comparing it with my fretted SKB....can’t keep them both. Hoping to pare it down to just one fretted. I have a very nice Lakkand LOG P5 but it gets so little playing time with the two SKB’s ( and now the Sadowsky) in the House so I will likely be moving it.
My fret less SKB is going nowhere!
Alright Roscoe Brethren, any idea where I could get a box 27h x 22W x 19D??? I need to ship a Bass cabinet and do t have the original box.

All of these attempts at trying to make one bass sound like another reminds me of a song that went something like... Looking for Love in all the wrong places!!
Lol I’ve certainly thought about just going for a P-Bass or selling/trading one of the Roscoe’s to get a P/J model.
I do like the sound of the fretted JB with flats though. At least to my ears it can sound similar to a P-bass.
I did some research this morning and found that David Hood used a P-Bass on "I'll Take You there" so I re-recorded the main bass part and the bridge solo in the middle using the JB w/flats.
The other basses are an assortment of other Roscoe's that I've owned (or own).
I'm really digging the sound of these flats on this bass.

There is some truth. It’s always a balance. I can get close enough for live with my Roscoe and avoid bass swaps mid set and have a good B string.
If you want that “exact” sound and and feel then you get a P.

Sell/trade my JB fretted to get a P/J? I do prefer the 18.3 spacing. Tough call.

Right!! Just get the bass that has the sound your like or seek. Easy as Sunday morning!
I took my Ken Smith Black Tiger to church this morning and dialed in the J, P, Roscoe and the Smitty sound with just a few turns of the knobs. Love or hate the Ken Smith Neck-thru sound/voice, but that's an awesome playing/sounding bass! IJS
Right. Like I said, for live shows the Roscoe is close enough and so easy to play and convenient. No swapping. Keeps it easy. A little pan, a little right hand placement. Easy.
That's why I still kick around the mod idea. A couple toggle switches with some dual coil soaps and I suppose I could get even closer. But, is it really worth it? No one is complaining and I still get asked to play so.....

There it is. No one cares as much about your tone as you, unless you are in a national/international act. You pan to the neck if you are doing a P cover, bridge or 50/50 for a jazz cover, and 50/50 with eq for everything else. You have a $$$$ bass that can do all that already...lucky you!
Disclaimer: I own all three Roscoe body shapes, each with a different pickup config, and a fretless JB. So, above opinion "is what it is".
I've never understood the concern for needing a bass that cops certain tones. I always look for basses that are very playable and sound good in a mix as hardly anyone can truly tell the difference in a live band setting. Give me a bass that has great clarity and cutting ability and I can get any tone I need for the bands I play with.
