Roscoe Club

lol
I had to look at the picture again once I started listening to the track because of the "fretless" vibe i heard.
That's a beautiful bass Joe.

Thanks DG! This is Roscoe number 34 and I don't think I've ever had one sound quite like this. It's got to have something to do with the Wenge/maple Wedge neck and ash top. It's really different sounding.

#34!!!!!!!
Oh Lord,I have only owned 1 and the thought of #2 Roscoe is a little out of my reach right now lol

Lol. The most I’ve had at once was 4. I currently have 3. I mostly traded to try out different wood combo’s and electronics (so it was usually only shipping cost). It’s been fun but I hope to stop with the ones that I currently own (fretted STD Century JB w/solid mahogany body, fretless STD Century JB w/ash body & Koa top and the new fretted ash Signature). They all get wonder but different sounds, and of course play like Roscoe’s!

Since you've owned every Roscoe bass that has existed on Talkbass lol, what has been your favorite tone, best wood combination, and best looking Roscoe you have owned?

Lol Well a lot more than 34 Roscoe’s have come through TB!

Sound wise, mahogany bodies with wenge in the neck have long been my favorite for fretted. In the fretted world, the new ash bass is the outliner for me. I typically haven't loved the ash Roscoes that I've owned (of course thinking back, most of them had Nord pickups and Aggie pre's installed).

For fretless, the ash bodied Roscoe's with a bubinga top and Diamonwood have been really my favorite (except for the STD models that have such a thin top that the top wood doesn't really affect the tone much). For STD fretless basses the ash bodies with Diamondwood fingerboard are great (and the JB pickup placement kills on a fretless too).

I've migrated totally back to the Bart/Bart combo for electronics and pickups. I'll always love the Demeter pre on a Roscoe with soap bars but I have fallen back in love with the Bart 3-band pre.

In truth though, I feel like I've gone full circle on what I like. I think sometimes our taste changes a bit based on the music that we're currently listening to and playing. I'm also back where I started on amps (class A/B).

I suppose it could be due to changes in my hearing too (as I age) .... :D

Here's a few pics of my favorites to look at .....

Very good breakdown. The Cocbolo and the one above it in the pics you posted are the prettiest ones you posted along with the Koa that was posted 1st. I like the Aguilar combo but the 1 Bart-Bart combo I owned sounded great also.

I agree. In my limited experience, the Bart/Bart combo with "stock" D'Addario Nickel 170's with a 130 B string are it for Roscoe.
And the "JB" placement with Bart J and Bart pre is "it" for fretless.

:crying: My LG Koa is gone!!! :bawl:

Careful what you wish for!

That bass is proof that just because a bass is sold multiple times (on TB or any where), that doesn't mean that there's an issue with it.:)

Here's one more that I had with a crazy mytle burl top.

Right!! There is absolutely nothing wrong with that bass. Jon is the TB'er I bought it from, and he bought it back as soon as it was posted. I believe he is falling in love again with it!
I only sold it and my Ken Smith B/T to get funds to go in another direction. I'll miss it but I have others to fill the void.

I've played many fine Roscoes, but never owned one until now. I'm getting ready to join the club with an older LG-3005 that I just picked up on TB...

Cocobolo top, Spanish cedar back, standard maple/pupleheart neck, and what I suspect is a cocobolo board.

Welcome to the club Mike! That’s a great one to start with. Killer top!

That’s a fantastic combination. I had a SKB with those specs.
