Roscoe Club

I did get my bass from Keith and it is very nice. I did want to ask a very general question: the intonation is off a bit and there is quite a bit of fret buzz in general. I have not had time to record any yet but how much is too much for these two things? I know I can start changing the setup but with it just being Plekked I would think it would need little to no adjustment. Thanks for any experiences.

You'll probably need to do a setup!!

I'm thinking, first, just do intonation and string height to your preference. No neck adjustments!

It's been my experience that new basses don't arrive at the owner's door ready to gig. Some do a good job in that area, but now it needs to be fine-tuned for you. It's normal!!!

I say this about a lot of basses I buy but this one is a bit different! I think I can settle on this one. You know how many times I bothered you about this bass from casual posts! This one is meant to be!

  • Right, home to me for the LG Koa is JonKim. But if I were one of you who is looking to own that bass to begin following JonKim around. It could be up for sale in the near future!

It was never a bother, Jon! I can appreciate the love for that bass. It's a very nice bass and I treated it as such. It's good to know that it has found another good home and not some Roscoe experiment chop shop!

Since it has been plekked I am hesitant to make truss rod changes? Is that the wrong way to think? I would have thought that Roscoe's would have set it up pretty well already.
The PLEK machine does not set the truss rod, only levels frets. If your climate (or house) is considerably different than Greensboro (Roscoe shop) it may indeed need a truss rod tweak. Most of mine do when coming from NC to Canada.

As for fret buzz, if the correct relief doesn't do it for you, you can raise the action. In my experience Keith sets it on the lower end (his preference) which for me is about right or just a bit too low. A few here like it even lower (and easily achieve it on their Roscoes) but higher is ok too and probably right for many players.

Yep. What Jeff said. I've never got a bass from Keith that I didn't need to set it up to my liking (Plek or no Plek).
Set the action to how you like it, then check and set your intonation as required. Check the amount of relief (fret at the 1st and 24th fret and verify the distance at the highest point from the bottom of the string to the top of the fret). Set the relief based on how hard you play (guys that really dig in need a bit more. Guys with a really soft touch can get away with less).

If Keith Plek'd the neck then the frets should be level and the bass should setup really nicely.

let us know if you have anymore questions.

P.S. Around here, the bass doesn't exist if you don't post a pic!:D

In case you missed it, looks like BC is cleaning out the attic. These bags look kinda’ Under Cover like... no affiliation, fyi...

Roscoe Gig Bag for Bass | BASS CENTRAL

Pretty accurate - they are moving to a smaller space, and they are cleaning out a lot of inventory that they won't have room for at the new place. I saw a post from Beaver a few weeks ago about that. Nice gig bag, too!

Back to Roscoe's ..... Still waiting on Dykes to post proof pics of his new Roscoe.
In the meantime, I am totally bonding with this "new to me" ash Signature SKB-3005!
Holy crap does it play and sound good!:bassist:

It even inspired me to learn another Steelly Dan tune off of "Aja". I've always loved the tune "Home At Last" but never took the time to learn the tune. Chuck Rainey is the man!!!

Here's a quick and dirty recording of me playing the new Roscoe over the track. It's not note for note yet (He varies the bass parts each verse and chorus). I just went with what I had.

You've got to love the phat sound of this bass though!

lol
I had to look at the picture again once I started listening to the track because of the "fretless" vibe i heard.
That's a beautiful bass Joe.
