Roscoe Club

Another TBer checked today. Apparently there’s a 5-year waiting list (184 orders presently) if you want a new Wyn bass. Great to know his instruments have attracted so much attention. At least it gives a buyer plenty of time to pay.

He (Wyn) makes some really cool looking basses but sometimes he uses so many laminates that the adhesives just kill the sustain of the instrument. He is the ultimate "hippie sandwich" builder! Truly a work of art.

The Roscoe Signature SKB-3005 arrived this afternoon. So glad that he shipped it Fed Ex Home Delivery (Saturday deliveries). The bass (and case) literally looks brand new and after seeing it in person it does indeed have a flamed Ash top. It looked like flamed myrtle in the pics but it's more the color of ash in person.
It badly needed a setup and after going totally over the bass it plays totally awesome! No fret buzz anywhere. And I did remember correctly, a Roscoe fretted bass with an ash body is quite aggressive sounding. But, IMO the wenge in the neck and the maple finger board really fine tune the sound of the bass.
Without a doubt, the best part of the bass is the wenge/maple/wenge wedge neck. What a work of art and can you say stable? :)
Of course the Abalone"R" inlay on the head stock makes me smile too. IMO that should be standard!;)

I'll post a few pics. Time will tell if I'm going to roll the dice and order a Demeter preamp (based on Nightman's experiences).

I think that this one needs to be named "Blondie".

I recorded a quick and dirty track of the bass (bridge PU soloed) playing over Steeley Dan's song Josie

From a distance, your carpet looks like uncooked ramen.

I wouldn't touch the electronics on that bass. That is one of the best sounding Roscoe's I've heard.

Given your sound clip, why you'd ever mess with those electronics is well beyond my understanding. .

Yeah. Based on all the ash Roscoe's that I've owned I just assumed that it would be too aggressive for me. But after playing it a while (through the amp and recording) I think it's going to stay just as it is.

And on top of it playing and sounding really nice, check out the weight ..... much easier on an old mans back!:)

THAT is the correct weight for a bass! Of all the great features that come with a Roscoe - playability, cosmetics, sound quality, etc....the weight is always near or at the top of my list. I never even think about it when I have my SKB strapped on my shoulder. It really is the total package!

So I've been having a problem with my Roscoe LG3000 that's driving me crazy. I got it used about six months ago, and after three months or so, I started getting open-string buzz on the D and G strings. I took it to the shop where I got it, and the luthier there used something (superglue? Not sure) to build up those nut slots until the buzz went away.

The problem is that this program keeps recurring. I've had it in to them two or three times after that for the same problem on the D string. Same thing happens: it gets better, then a few weeks later, the problem is back. There's no buzz anywhere else on the neck, it's just the open strings and occasionally the first fret. There's been a lot of humidity in my area recently, could that be causing this problem? If so, is there any fix that might be more long-lasting?

A second issue I wanted to ask about was the truss rod. I was also told that the neck in this bass has a single-action truss rod, and with its current string set (Ernie Ball Cobalt Flatwounds), the truss rod is backed off pretty much all the way. There's no way to add relief to the neck with the truss, only straighten the neck. Any idea why Roscoe uses this truss rod setup?
