Hey Gard,
Question .......
Did you guys have Hip Shot shorten the length of the tuning key shafts over the last year or so? I was just stringing up my new Roscoe JM model and noticed that the tuner shaft doesn't extend as far beyond the headtsock face as they do on my other Roscoe.
Actually a good thing IMO. Forces the string down more toward the head stock face maximizing the downward string angle.

Don't quote me on this, but those tuners may be Gotoh instead of Hipshot... Roscoe was toying with the idea of switching sometime in the past year, and I think they officially did at some point...
EDIT: this may only apply to the "standard" models.

And I should mention that it wasn't a quality issue in any way. Both tuners are excellent. It was more a pricing decision.
Yep, hipshot changed the shaft length. Don't know if it is Roscoe only or system wide. I'm betting it was to cut manufacturing costs.
Joe, YES, we requested shorter string posts recently (about 2 years ago, actually) from Hipshot.
Greg is partly correct on the Gotoh tuners: we use them on the Standard/Standard Plus model now, but not on the Custom or Signature, which retain the Hipshot HB6Y tuners.

I second that emotion. Especially with the carved-top/custom sort of look. That would be wicked.
Yup. A headless Century Custom or Signature would be sweet.

Cool! IMO it's a nice subtle improvement. It allows you to get the string down to the base of the shaft without as many string wraps.
Just another thing that I love about Roscoe. Whether it's major or minor, they continually tweak their basses making them better! Never satisfied with status quo.
Hey Gard, a couple questions on a possible one-off.
wondering if there's a couple things that can be done with a CS5 or if they are "custom only" options. one is a volute, the other is narrow (17mm) spacing, bartolini P/J pickups and a black gloss finish with a matching headstock.

Not speaking for Gard but that sounds like a Custom model to me. All very doable and stuff I'm sure they'd be glad to help you out with.
i guess it would kind of be a hybrid between a custom and the standard model. just an alder or ash body, the 3-piece maple neck with pau ferro fingerboard. it would have the same flat-top body like the standards, just a few tweaks to it. i've been wanting a 5-string P/J for a long time, but being left-handed definately limits my choices.
The Bart PJ on a Standard/Standard Plus is available. The volute and custom string spacing are not, that would be available (the volute is not an option, it's what it has) and custom string spacing would have to be a Custom or Signature.
Just want you to know that I went with Custom spacing (16.5 mm) and a 30 inch scale. Both were up charges. The guys at Roscoe knocked it out of the park. Paying extra to get exactly what I wanted was worth every penny IMO. But I knew exactly what I wanted- from pickups to body wood, top wood, fret board, etc. I only knew that because I've played SO many different basses.( thanks to nice people and basscentral) so if you really KNOW what you want. I say go for it. Roscoe gave me an instrument that was even better than I thought it could be( a low b on a 30 inch scale is rumored to be bad, but mine is great.)
I just went to bass central today because I wanted a new amp. I tried many different heads and had no interest in picking up any bass in the store. That's how pleased I am with my roscoe.
i've seen pics of your shorty 5 and that is a killer looking bass. i've got a CS5+ in the works right now and am already thinking about #2. I've been wanting to get into the high-end thing for a while but have never been in a financial position to do so. this year i've saved enough to make it possible and after checking out a number of builders, listening to sound clips and reading the experiances of owners i ended up going with Roscoe. they have a humber of features that i like and they have the sound and look i'm going for as i'm tired of the usual old fender thing and wanted something different. the Roscoe i have in the works really is a giant leap of faith for me as i've never even played a Roscoe in person. most will call me crazy for dropping that kind of coin on a bass i dont have any previous experiance with. i feel that i've played enough basses at various stores that i can get along with pretty much any bass.
I'm taking one of my boys to Orlando the first weekend of Nov for Minecon. Of course, I'll have not much to do so I'm hoping to be able to get out to Bass Central on Saturday morning.
Definitely go. They've got a ton of stuff but- if there's something on the website you want to see specifically then I would call them first to see if it's still in stock. If it is in stock it might not be in the "showroom" so they'd have to get it out.
Other than that they've got plenty of different basses, cabs, and amps in the showroom.

I bought my first Roscoe without playing one first. I'm on number 4 or 5 and my 2nd custom order. Don't worry, you'll love the bass and love the way you are treated by the people at Roscoe. Best in the biz.
