Believe it or not I think that I'm really done. My Custom Signature SKB-3005 with the wenge wedge neck and maple board totally kills (and checks all of my boxes) and I really love playing the new Fender Elite Precision. I'm much more a 4 string player these days (doing the classic rock GTG's with a couple groups of local players) and having a blast doing it. I think during the long journey through the world of boutique basses I forgot just how great a P bass (and J bass) sounded in a gig. I guess that I'm going back to my roots (which was a Fender Precision). I did pick up a new Bergantino Forte' head and I'll probably eventually need another cab to go with my Berg HT112-ER (probably a Berg Ref 210) but other than that I am totally set!
As far as fretless goes, I played my Warmoth Gecko fretless a few times lately and that bass in a mix is wonderful! More of a woody growl (thick ebony board) than the diamondwood board and IMO just sounds better with a band (thicker in the mix).
I've said it many times before but never really meant it .... But this time I think I mean it ......

While I haven’t had nearly as many Roscoe’s as Joe, I have had my share of basses - “boutique” and otherwise - and I feel pretty confident that I have found my “modern” active 5 string in my Roscoe Century 5 Plus.
Quite the bass face but a really nice shot of my bass in action of which I don’t have many. I do think that I will have a plain old passive 4 string P or J bass sometime down the road, but for now, this takes care of all my needs at this point.

I’ve never owned a Fender and only played one in a GC and just didnt feel comfy with the neck on the ones I tried.
My GAS is way down too. I have one build in the makings and it might just be my last (
), although I still enjoy window shopping and browsing the TB Classifieds.
Since the Atlanta Bass Gallery closed its doors, I’ve no place to go try out unique/boutique basses and be tempted to buy! A good thing I suppose, but it was fun while it lasted!

Life was much more simple when I was ignorant to the boutique world and TB land. I only had my Ibanez and Music Man basses and thought that was the best in the world lol.

Actually, I'm glad I was introduced to Talkbass in 2012! Up until then, I only knew of GC to go try and buy guitars. I would hear about other builders/brands other than what was being sold in GC, but I did not venture into the purchasing part of it. So my string instrument world was widely opened because of TB. So, THANKS TALKBASS!!
Yep, my first two basses were Ibanez and Music Man, too, and I'll probably never own another one of either! My depth into the boutique world has pretty much bottomed out, but I still have a few remnants of that experience hanging to marvel at and enjoy at my leisure until my interest in basses leaves me, which is so far down the road that I can't even imagine it!!

I have been "lulling" it over and I think I am going to place my Mike Lull P5ver Passive on TB after the New Year.

I hear ya Joe! Ive been through several nice basses over the past few years- 7 Status Graphite basses, Smith’s, Fibenare, Ken Lawrence, Brubaker, & several others. I’m keeping my 2 Roscoes, my Modulus, Lej, & Bossa.Ray,

Theres’s really not much that interests me any more as far as basses go.
I am temporarily Gas free! Between my Roscoes & Modulus I really have most any tone that I need. It’s just kinda where I’m at currently- I’m not saying I’ll never buy another bass, I’ve definitely gotta get Keith to do at least one custom build for me someday. But for now, I’m content with everything I have, & getting a couple of Roscoes really was the icing on the cake. Absolutely love everything about them.. Merry Christmas from Arkansas, my lowend friends!!!
Just two instruments: an old-school Precision with flats, and a Roscoe LG 5er with rounds. My basses are covered.

Well, I installed those TIJF on my Roscoe fretless, with no need to make any adjustments. Man, they are oh so smooth, and the Roscoe sounds really nice. I played on them for about an hour... almost thought I had received a new bass, that I don’t need!
Now, if only they will just continue to feel/play this way when I take this bass on a gig!!

That's the beauty of TI Jazz flats. They feel and sound the same 3 years later (that's the oldest set that I have; so maybe they feel and sound the same forever).
That would save some 
!
So, the silk material wrappings on the winding ends of the strings don’t really do anything, right? I have installed and removed these strings a few times and I hate the frizzy look on some of them. I should be able to remove the silk thread or burn the frizzies without damaging the strings, right?

Yeah Ray. It’s mostly just for looks. Sometimes you have to remove some of it at ball end so the bare string can cleanly rest on the saddle (depending on how far back the saddle moves to achieve proper intonation).
