Well the infamous "Superman" tightened output jack strikes again! :help::help::help:
I finally got around to trying to remove the output jack on my 2008 Roscoe and it was so tight that it was obvious that I'd had to destroy the jack in order to get it off. I was going to remove it so I could remove the jack spacer nut to enable the threaded output jack shaft to extend through the electro-socket enough to accommodate a right angle plug. For those that weren't around back in the time frame of 2005-2010, many of us accused Roscoe of having superman tighten the jack into the electro-socket. You literally had to destroy both the output jack and electro-socket in order to separate them.
At any rate, a few owners grinded down a 7/16" wrench so it would fit between the jack body and the electro-socket but that still sometimes resulted in damaging the electro-socket due to having to hold it securely (to keep it from turning) during the removal process.
Thankfully Gard eventually had the tech's relax the torque method of tightening the electro-socket to the jack but those basses manufactured during that time would not accommodate most of the cables with 90 connector ends (without the mod being done).
At any rate, It's about as cheap to buy a new cable so I think that I'm going that route in lieu of ordering and installing a new output jack and electro-socket.
I know that my Lava cable right angle cable ends don't work. Anyone have another brand that they know works with the elecro-socket installation? The jack shaft on the Lava cable is 1 7/32" long so I'd need one slightly longer. Also, if your output jack threaded shaft extends more than a couple threads (out of the electro-socket), then you have one of the modified installations (nut removed) and your right angle cable probably wouldn't work with my bass either.

Ahhh, yes! I had a couple Roscoes from that era. My tech was able to get the dang things loose so that the nut could be removed, and after that I specified in my custom orders that the spacer nut be left out of them.

I've seen ads for a tool - looks kinda like an internal pipe wrench - to be used to secure the inside sleeve of the jack to resist outside turning force -- but of course, I can't find them now... Always thought it'd be a good thing to have in my stage bag or at least on my bench back home. Need to follow through next time I see that ad.

Not familiar with the term 'electro-socket' -- as differentiated from the jack. Wazzat?

Thanks - I learned something today.
I've just been calling it the 'fancy nut' ...
On one of mine, a previous owner (or more likely, PO's tech...) looks to have taken ChannelLock pliers to it. Made it easier to replace the jack by the time I got to it, but I did replace it. I bet somebody makes a spanner wrench with pins just the right distance to engage the mounting screw holes...

Pretty bass Shane. That is a killer piece of cocobolo!
Pau Ferro is very similar in tone to rosewood. It's a really hard wood (great for fretless) so it sounds somewhere between rosewood and ebony (even though most folks consider it a subst for hard to get rosewood these days).
IMO the maple neck and pau ferro would probably tame the aggressive tone of the ash nicely.
All that being said, all that pretty wood sure have made a sweet Roscoe! :D

I figured it might be warmer than Ebony as I find Ebony pretty snappy.
